trishalouise
All of a sudden my Mini Poodle has started to walk beautifully next to me. She has never been a real puller as I have been conscious of not letting her but she was a bit of a yo-yo - pull, come back, pull, come back! Last night we went out and I almost forgot she was next to me - in fact the Greyhound pulled more than her!! ;) Tonight - same thing!! She has also been a bit of a nervous barker and would bark when she saw people, other dogs etc. Well, tonight she was calm, didn't bark at anyone, and even when 2 yappers were yelling at her through a fence she just trotted along next to me, tail up and looking at me!! We sat at the park and watched people for a while and not one little woof!! Perhaps she is growing up and all the training and effort I have put into making her a "nice" Poodle is paying off . We often post about trouble training and bad things - thought I would share my little win!! Trish
pip1981
that's excellent trish! do you mind if i ask how old she is? our female samoyed is 14 m.o, and naturally, has ALWAYS been a puller, unlike your poodle, we have tried many things suggested, but her stubborness remained, hehehe, until just this week, when it seems a light bulb when off in her head and she realised 'hmm, it really is a lot easier if i just do what they want', and we too, thought, maybe our baby is growing up! it's a very nice feeling, she's still a bit silly, but it's 90% easier than it was... hope things stay this way for you and your poodle!! trishalouise
She is 13 months - so it could be the age! Perhaps they are both tricking us and will revert to their yo-yo ways - so let's make the most of it!!! Jesskah - how old is your pup? Makes me think about the thread recently asking when do you consider a dog is no longer a pup. I put 18 months. When we started training with Noodle she did brilliantly - passed her basic course with a perfect score. Then, all of a sudden she got the wobbles (fear period I think) and couldn't do anything but bark!! I pulled her out because it was doing her more harm than good being there and have just continued doing my training with her. My excuse for her was (still is) that she is just a baby and will be ready for more formal training when she is ready - perhaps that time is here. It is a good thing because I can't keep calling her a pup forever!! The plan is to start agility with her this year so that will be interesting!! pip1981
hehe, that's funny, we were thinking we might try agility with Dakota once we have done some further obedience training (we've only been to puppy kinda and of course, home training so far)! oh, and Dakota's nickname is 'puppy' and I think she'll always be puppy to us! Clyde
My pups 11-12 weeks, so yeh still a big baby, so walking next to the pram and my partner yesterday was a big mission. Jesskah, you probably already know to keep the walks really short for a pup? They don't really need walks, just a romp around the park. Walking can be damaging to their soft bones. Sounds like you're doing really well with the training though She sounds like a fun little pup.

Clyde
Anyway now I'm rambling haha. Ramble away You should come see us in the Stafford thread Be careful re vaccinations too as your pup wouldn't be covered just yet unless they have had the newer vaccine protocol. You sound like you have the best of both breeds, but then I am biased
