Jenny Raison
thanks heaps jamie more info: Melbourne - south eastern suburbs:Oakleigh: Oakleigh market and two of the wholesale butchers in the shopping centre - ox and lamb tongues, chicken frames, lamb necks and shanks, sheeps' heads, lamb ribs, pet mince and a large range of offal, etc. Poultry shop in Oakleigh Central for turkey & chicken necks, turkey & chicken frames, chicken pet mince. Brighton East: Buddies Pet Supplies on Nepean Hwy - for good quality pet meat. Prahran: Asian butcher on Commercial Rd (near Prahran market) - mostly for pork and chicken - giblets and other offal are cheaper here. Springvale Market: Worth a look for cheap lamb necks, chicken feet and a range of more unusual pork offal, but other prices seem much the same as in other places I shop. TwinkyDay
Newbie AKA First Time Poster here! I saw this topic and thought "great, here's one that I can contribute to" but the place I was going to recommend has already been mentioned - "Just Food 4 Dogs". We've been having deliveries from them for about six months now and are very happy. Our dogs really love the meats we get from them.
Oscar (AmBull)
Just a quick question. Anyone know of where to buy RAW in the Adelaide Hills? Around the Mount Barker area? I have asked a few butchers but no luck. I can get chicken and kangaroo mince, however am looking for lamb mince and offal. Also where do people buy fish? What kind of fish? Is it expensive? *Avanti*
Rather than start a new thread I thought it might be better to add to this one. I've been advised to put my dogs onto a kangaroo, potato and pumpkin diet (by a vet skin specialist) as another attempt to investigate what is causing (or to rule out the cause) some allergy symptoms which are particularly bad for one of my dogs (both Labradors). I'm trying to find a good source of kangaroo meat in Melbourne. They used to have it at Vic Market, does anyone know if they still do or anywhere else I could get some? (Northern Melb). The closest I've found so far was human grade for $20 a kilo which is more than I can afford.
Miz J
Hope Valley Meat Grand Junction Rd, Hope Valley The butcher is in a group of shops near the corner of Valley Road and Grand Junction Rd. The people there are great and are happy to help with anything you need. Great prices and as I am a bit nervous about feeding my dogs chicken frames, they mince them for me. corvus
There's a big pet store on Paramatta Rd in Ashfield, kind of near Bunnings. I have forgotten what it's called, but it's on the eastbound side. They have turkey necks, lamb ribs, pork bones (rec only), kangaroo tails, chicken necks, wings and carcases, and they have some great mince mixes like chicken and sardine, chicken and venison, beef and vegies and so on. Also rabbit pieces. Reasonably priced, although the rabbit is a bit pricey. I also got some liver and vegie cubes from there while passing through on Monday. There used to be another store in Rockdale, but they said it had just closed. The local butcher in Jannali (Sutherland Shire) has just started selling a lot of game meats. It's too expensive for dog food (at least for me), but I'm going to ask them where they get it from. I would love to source some cheap game meat. Oh, and Petcare 2000 in Caringbah usually has kangaroo shanks, which are very meaty. They are around $5 a kilo, I think. They have roo tail as well for around the same price. I don't bother with the chicken wings because they are teensy and still dearer than Cliff from Just Food 4 Dogs.
Vickie
I would never use Burns Pet foods in Sydney as I have seen the diseased and unhealthy animals they use for their pet food - especially the horses. I have also done a tour of the killing floor and am amazed by the lack of hygiene there. Since we moved, I go to Burns every week & haven't seen any diseased looking animals yet. I have seen a few that look underweight, but also see them feeding their stock. Burns also do wholesale, so there is every chance that pet meat purchased at other places comes from Burns anyway. I agree that the area you go in to pick up your meat is not exactly pleasant, but again, generally you would not get to see this if you are buying from a retailer. My dogs have never looked healthier since I started feeding from Burns, so no complaints from me.

benny123
Since we moved from the Sutherland shire to the Southern Highlands I've had a devil of a time trying to find decent raw food for pets. I have found that Williams Meats (or Williams Butchery, not sure) in Mittagong do a pet mince that is pretty much minced chicken frames with a little bit of offal in the mix - possibly chicken liver. Some days it's fresh other it's frozen into 1kg bags. If it's frozen I ask them to cut each bag into four portions - no probs. If anyone knows of any other places in the Southern Highlands, NSW I'd love to hear about it

Corvus/Poocow, can I ask for some price examples by any chance? Chicken carcass / rabbit / roo tail / lamb flaps $ per Kg roughly?? Just wanting to compair to my current supply, as it would be about a 45 minute drive for me to get there, but could add a few other stop overs along the way to make the trip worth while (If the costs/savings are worth while!) Also, presume the chicken mince is pet quality? With the carcass ground into it? (Sorry to ask so many questions! LOL just want to investigate before I make the 1.5hr round trip
poocow
I only buy the mince, don't know the other prices off the top of my head. Chicken mince is around $2 or maybe $2.50 a kg. The mixed varieties ie. with sardines/liver/rabbit/pork/beef mixed in ranges from $2.75-$3.75 a kg. What I love about it is the range and that they come in 1kg take away container tubs so they are easy to stack in the freezer and store in the fridge - 1 tub does us for 2 days. Takes me at least an hour to get there but I always buy in bulk and make sure my freezer is packed full!
