megan_
Slightly off topic - a friend once invited me over for corned silverside and I was expecting exactly what you mentioned Tilly - however....got there and she opened a CAN of the stuff and plopped that on my plate - it looked like Pal or something....was very difficult to be polite and eat it.As to what aminal - its beef isnt it - or is corned beef something different? I use corned beef/corned silverside to refer to the same thing. Sounds like SPAM to me (hmmm...pig snount....)

luvsdogs
You can buy fresh silverside to bake. I don't know if its the same price as corned silverside. At least there's no salt.
cassie
LOL loving all the recipes/cooking guides everyone I should change the name of the thread to "Do you like Silverside? Come on in and share your tips!"
BigBen
Some silversides are tough meat, injected with the salt solution... It also has colour in it, so it appears red... I would salt it myself... At least then you know what's in your meat.
smooch
I do give our dogs the odd slice when we have it. corned beef/silverside I give it a good soak in several changes of fresh water and than I bake it. I think it tastes better this way. I used to cook it in a slow cooker, pressure cooker and boiled on the stove top with veggies added like others have said, but no one here likes it that way so I now bake it. edit to say we grow our own meat and have it cut up at a butcher Edited January 9, 2009 by smooch

ellz
Definately don't waste it on the dogs ... cook in a big pot with some apple cider vinager, cloves, onions, carrots and some brown sugar. Cook until lovely and tender and then serve up with creamy cheese sauce, cabbage and mashed potato Roight, what time is dinner?
