chuckie500
Sam went for a walk this morning as usual. Then around 10am this morning, I asked the dogs if they wanted to go outside and they just raced out. Then 3 minutes later I noticed Sam in the yard holding his right front paw up, as if he has a biindi. I couldn't find anything, but he kept on limping. I have examined the paw quite thoroughly, pads, between the pads, the leg, bending the leg and joints, and he doesn't really react at all. I washed it water also. No swelling no bruising, but eh limping continues and he looks a little sad. If there was something sticking into the paw (eg biindi) i imagine he would react when the paw gets pushed. If he injured his leg, I would also imagine he would react when i bend his leg or push his leg bone a bit. I have no idea. Any ideas? I could take him to the vet 2morrow, but i don't know what they could do to determine the cause. Its only six or so hours. I am an anxious parent. persephone
it could be anything from a prickle to a strain..... rest him,and see how it is tomorrow. I f he's bright ,and eating, and weight bearing... don't panic..but if it is still not being used tomorrow..then a vet check will probably be needed. chuckie500
Thanks for your comments. When they're not well, i get down in the dumps too. He ate his dinner as normal tonite. That's a good plan, it helps to have a good plan.
beagle babies
I had the same issue with my dog a while ago - he started limping which at first was barely noticeable but by very late evening he was hopping on three legs. He also looked a little sad but continued to eat, drink and hop about. I tried to keep him still, checked all his paws, legs etc and contacted the 24 hour vets. They advised me to try and keep him as quiet as possible and take him into my regular vets the following day. The next morning after a restless night of no sleep as I was sick with worry I rang my vets and managed to get him an appointment for that afternoon. I kept a close eye on him but by time the vet visit came around he had made me look like a complete fool as I had advised the vet he could only hop and not put weight on all 4 paws and by time we arrived at the vets he was walking normal. The vet checked all his paws and toes and after a sleepless night thinking of all the worst possibilities it turns out he had managed to sprain his little toe while running around in the garden A couple of perscribed pain killers and he was all ok. chuckie500
I'm so glad i'm not the only one that worries so much. Very similar to your story so far. Last night, you'd think he had only three legs. Marginally better this morning but wouldn't hop up like usual. No walkies this morning. The other dog is looking sad in sympathy. I have an appt this morning at about 11am. I'd rather be sure that I have done everything possible to make sure he is right. Thanks for your feedback. chuckie500
Now he has started to put a little weight back on his foot. I even walked him to the footpath and he walked almost normally. I cancelled my appt this morning, they were very nice about it and reminded me if i want to bring him in later just to call. I just didn't want to hog valuable vet time when there might be more urgent problems this w/end for the vets. I think he will get better. I even go off my food when they r not well. Can u imagine what i'll be like when they r really sick. I'll need the medication.
