Surgery Swelling

I had my male cattle X desexed yesterday, and I'm not sure how much swelling is good and at what point I should be worried.

I've noticed that his scrotum seems to be swelling/filling with liquid and looks quite large. [i tend to over react-but I have no idea if it ok or not] Is that normal after being desexed?

I have been keeping him as quiet as possible. He goes for a few short wanders in the garden occasionally and has only managed to run and bark at two or three dogs at the gate. Should I be keeping him quieter??

Any help would be appriciative

[if i can i'll snap a picture of it]

A small amount of swelling/filling with liquid is normal, but if he starts to feel pain there, it's back to vet.

My Kelpie swelled up hugely after being desexed and was soon in obvious pain. Turned out he had an infection. Antibiotics cleared it up, and the swelling went down quickly after that.

Yes swelling occurs so don't be to worried. Sometimes people think that their dog has not been desexed as the scrotum is swollen.

Is your dog showing any kind of discomfort? I am sure you can be your own judge is in massive amounts of pain or just a little bit uncomfortable. If he is just a bit uncomfortable, most of them seem to feel the stitches pulling at some stage, then I wouldn't worry but if he is in alot of pain then a vet trip may be required.

so the swelling should go down in a few days??

Swelling will be gone by the time he gets his stitches out. Should be left with just the skin.

How old is he? If he is a pup then you will find that over a few months his scrotum will basically disappear. If he is an older dog then it will take much longer for it not to be so noticable.
