Colliewood
Hi, Dumb question possibly!!!! Should you feed raw salmon or cooked (boneless)? I defrosted it today and didn't cook it and with new years tomorrow won't cook it for us. Sooooo, the doggies can have a bit of it over the next few days. Won't give them alot as it might give them the trots!!!!!! Raw ok or cooked???

Norskgra
I would feed it raw with the bones included. My dogs get raw whole fish, usually 3 times a week and love it.
DeltaCharlie
Id go with raw, no point in cooking it for them, will probably destroy half the goodness in it. Mine love salmon and Charlie loves raw salmon heads.
koolietas
Definitely! My boy gets raw salmon once a fortnight - either heads or pieces...and he loves it!
CP*
Be very careful. My dogs also love salmon, but it can be deadly. There is a disease called salmon poisoning that is fatal to dogs if they eat raw salmon. It comes from bacteria found in the food salmon and other upstream swimming fish consume. Not all salmon will carry the bacteria but to be on the safe side do not feed it raw. Freezing will usually kill the deadly bacteria but to be sure you may want to also cook it. TiffanyAmber
Its not the salmon that kills the dog but the fluke (Nanophyetus salmincola)in the salmon. Last I heard about this was salmon from Canada/America was affected. Australian fisheries are very strict with their handling and screening processess. I've fed my guys salmon for years and they are still around.
