Cut Paw Pad

Our dane cross girl has cut the big pad of her rear paw right across. It is bleeding quite a bit but not gaping open. I have bandaged it for now and I am trying to keep her off it until I can get to the vet tonight (no car). Is there anything else I need to do? She ripped it on a nail I think, but it looks pretty clean. What will the vet do?

My Shepherd cut his foot on glass in a river ( ) and because it was deep he got stitches

I had the vet tape that sticks to itself in my doggie first aid kit, so after I sorted it out at the river I took him home, re rinsed it and put some cotton pads in gauze and taped his foot up until we went to the vet. Luckily he was so knacked from swimming he didn't really want to run around... I think I also put a sock on it when he went to the loo to stop it getting dirty/damp

Thanks Vehs. We took Willow to the vet and he cleaned and banadaged the cut. It is long but not too deep thankfully. He gave her antibiotics just in case. It doesn't even seem to be bothering her so that is good. She is more upset about the bandage than anything else. I think it will heal just fine.

Does anyone have any ideas about how long it will take to heal? A couple of weeks since it isn't too deep?

yup shouldn't take longer than 2 weeks

after they checked and re bandaged D's paw they taped his dew claw in funny and he was chewing to relieve the pain (it was rubbing him raw

so if she's really annoyed with it you might want to check that, otherwise she might just be fussy - I think D loved the attention of having a pink bandage hahaha

than bandage should only be on for few days (either taken off or changed) please tell me your vet told you this!

anf they should have put cotton between the toes to stop discomfort and to stop pressure sores in between.

pad cuts are nasty because they bleed so so much

poor girl, i hope shes ok

She's been really good! We will go back friday to have the dressing changed and the wound checked. It must be pretty comfortable because she is leaving it alone and walking normally on it. I have been bagging it to keep it dry so she can go outside briefly, otherwise she is snoozing the days away in the sun near the window, so I guess she feels fine.
