EXTERMINATE and yes, I am shouting ! NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO...... I'm shouting too OMG...i've been avoiding the removal of this dang weed for years. Please sweet lord, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! :rolleyes: ;) yep...wandering dew used to reduce my boys belly to an itchy spotty mess. Could be the culprit. Hi, When you finish cleaning up the garden if your boy is still itchy try some olive oil or break a fish oil capsule open and put it over his food or in some milk. If the scratching continues and you do suspect it is due to an allergy it would be a good idea to get your dog allergy tested. Our girl was prescribed Prednisone tablets and was severely allergic to them too - also, they really just 'cover up' the problem - they dont do anything to get to the bottom of it. When we had our girl allergy tested we found out she was allergic to a whole heap of things, including dandelions, moths, cockaroaches, flies, mosquitoes, a few different types of grass, melaleuca plus beef, corn and other food items! (food issues were discovered through an elimination diet) Because we found out what she was actually allergic to, we have been able to remove those things that we can remove and control the balance with diet and antihistamines. I know it's probably allergy related in your case, but the fact that the tail was pretty popular made me think it could still be flea related... My own cocker (8 months now) has been scratching and biting for the past 4 months, our backyard is pretty much all hard surfaces and despite all the treatments (I have tried different brands of spot on treatments, bathe him in flea shampoo, vacuum regularly, wash all his bedding and spray them with flea repellent, he still has fleas I go through his fur, especially on his tummy, back end and legs and usually pick one every day (which makes me think there must be much more in the environment ) Suprisingly our indoor cat (white persian, so lots of grooming and really easy to spot flea droppings) has been hardly affected by them this year, when she used to be bearing the brunt of it.... Puppy blood is tastier? Funny you should mention this fbaudry. I found a lone flea on Rodney the other day. This was after the vet declared him flea free even -she couldnt find any flea poo in his fur but said this might not indicate their absence. I am using sentinel spectrum (which is supposed to sterilize them) and advantage now. Thank god for Priceless Pets He hasnt been near the wandering dew for days and is still scratching. MelodysMum Posted January 28, 2009 Share Posted January 28, 2009 (edited) I agree, it is probably the Wandering Jew (yes, persephone is correct, it is Jew). You need to get rid of it ASAP. Here is an information sheet about it and how to get rid of it - Wandering Jew Brianna gets dry skin if I don't look after it really well. I feed her Proplan Sensitive which has made a huge difference to her skin and coat. She also has a fish oil capsule every day (swallowed whole), and sardines once a week. I always bath her in Aloveen Shampoo and Conditioner and leave the conditioner on. Her skin is much better now, but she still bites and scratches occasionally just out of habit. You may find that Rodney will keep scratching and biting even after the cause is gone, out of habit like Brianna still does sometimes. When Brianna was a puppy I used to physically stop her from doing it by putting my hand on her muzzle and moving it away from where she was scratching, and saying, "Brianna, stop that!" or "No! Don't scratch!" She would stop. Now I just need to say either of those two things when she is biting or scratching herself and she will stop straight away.
