Car Grease On Dog Coat

 Share

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I got in a little rescue foxy x boy the night before Christmas he is 8 years old and seems to have what looks like car grease or oil on his coat I tried the normal dog shampoo but this stuff is right down to his skin and looks like it has been on him for a long time. Can anyone give me an idea of what to wash him with to break up the oil or grease without iritating his skin.

thanks

Dawn dishwashing liquid would be my first recommendation, but if you can't get hold of that, green Palmolive (or any green dishwashing liquid) should do the trick. It may take a couple of baths and you MUST be sure to condition well because it can be very drying.

Good luck.

Dishwashing detergent worked for us. We poured it straight on and used a little warm water to lather it up. I can take a bit of effort to get the soap out so make sure you rinse really well ... adding doggy conditioner seems to help getting rid of the soap.

Dawn dishwashing liquid would be my first choice too - a friend was told by a vet to use that on her dog when it got covered in old sump oil. Apparently they use it on birds that get caught in oil slicks so it must be mild.

Sards Wonder soap works well too.I used to have to use it on a customers white bull terrier that used to go to work with the owner in a mechanics garage and used to be black.Woudl give him a scrub with teh sards than rinse well than shampoo.Came out gleaming
