Ham Bone

Our neighbour just gave us a ham bone for the dog. Is it ok for her to have a chew on? I'm thinking it has been smoked or cooked or something??

Any ideas?

I would say a big NO

Cooked bones have a tendancy to splinter and shatter.

I would advise not letting the dog have it- too much salt etc for a start!!!

Use it for soup stock! Or throw it out.

It also has saltpetre in it.

My vet told me they get more dogs in over Christmas with gastro and tummy bugs then any other time of year because people feed the ham bone to them

Years ago i made the mistake of giving my dog ham off the bone.. never again, for 2 days he had the worst diarrohea(sp?) he was a sick little dog.

A nice raw meaty bone is a much better option
