Snap
Definitely still learning how to use it, the shallow depth of field is something I have to watch out for! Missed a few great portraits today because an eye wasnt in focus etc. Anyone got some fool-proof tips? Here's one I liked, just a street candid:
Snap
Thanks JS That's a great idea, I might follow suit! I also picked up another lens today but that can always be February ETA: Just thought I'd test the low light capabilities of the lens. Took these tonight with only a lamp on in the room, 1/25 f/1.8. Nothing special, just a sleepy cav! Edited December 30, 2009 by Snap
Bellatrix
Lovely pics! Snap, What I love about this lens (one of many) is that its great in low light!!

jr_inoz
I got one today Canon 50mm f/1.8 at JB Hi-Fi, got it for $120 ;) oo oo oo - so did I!!!! I am blaming this thread too. I was looking at the f1.4 but wondered whether for an amateur like me it was going to be worth the extra amount. When I found out that there weren't any in adelaide (well a second hand one at the photo wholesalers...) kinda made me lean toward the 1.8. I will need lessons I think. Am trying to manage the focal point thing. Took a few of my nieces today but don't like any of them. Definitely still learning how to use it, the shallow depth of field is something I have to watch out for! FHRP
OK, I succumbed and bought the 1.8. Would have liked the 1.4 but as I shouldn't have even bought the 1.8 after my Christmas sales splurge on a fridge, I thought I'd better not First go Rogan is less than thrilled at yet more reason to shove a camera in his face! tlc
So many fabulous photos here, I havent been in here for a long time so last night waded through about 15 pages to see all the more recent pics and it inspired me to have a little shoot today with my lot. Its so hot here and they are all looking a but lack lustre but we have a play anyway!! Heres some of the shots. Lacy Tully Cooper with the big sad eyes playing funny buggers with his ears! It is amazing how many people have beem insired by this thread to go out and buy the nifty 50, My OH got mine for me online it was only $99 and I am amazed at the pics it takes, it does take a little while to get used to the fact you cant zoom and also the focus depending on what setting your using but all i can say is play and have fun!!
