Possible Seizures

Hi,

My 12 and a half yr old dog has had a couple of concerning 'episodes'.

This dog is very bright, energetic and seemingly very healthy for her age.

However, on Saturday, she was playing with her ball and all of a sudden fell onto her side, stiffened slightly and was somewhat wide and glassy eyed( but otherwise aware of her surroundings, I think).

Now tonight, she was sound asleep on the couch, and suddenly threw herself back, and did as above.

Obviously given her age, I am aware that there may be something sinister starting all of this, to which I will get her checked out tomorrow. However, this has got me thinking about whether there may be something she has been newly exposed to ect

The only thing I could come up with is, 2 weeks ago, I purchased one of those automatic air freshener things, that spray scent every 10mins or whatever.

It has me wondering??

I have always reared my dogs naturally, and avoided pumping chemicals and crap into their bodies, so I am wondering about this air freshener stuff.

Perhaps wishful thinking, though?

Any thoughts appreciated.

Insecticide and some form of alcohol-based aromatheraphy---they all caused my friend's Sibe to go into miserable fits.

Thanks for the input. It gives me hope that there may be a reason less sinister behind this.

It scares the crap out of me!! I was up with every little noise last night

Ok, back from the vet. All bloodwork was completely normal.

Vet is inclined to think a brain tumour, to which he wants to prescribed Cortisone.

I am opting to get an MRI done tomorrow for my piece of mind and to hopefully getting a definative answer on what I am dealing with.

We've got our old boxer boy on 5 1000mg fish oil capsules after he had 4 grand mal seizures in 10 days - really aweful........fish oil was suggested and so far so good.........obviously don't know if he would have been seizure free anyhow but vet didn't want to give him any meds in a hurry due to his age.....

Hope things improve for your boy........

Hi Prodigybxr, I'b get an MRI done too.

Having lost 2 boxers - one definitely from a brain tumor, and one from either a brain or pancreatic tumor, any sign of any seizure in a boxer is worrying for me, as they both had seizures as the first indication.

I hope in your case, it is something less sinister. My thoughts and good wishes are with you both.

I do think if it was the air freshener it may have happened a lot sooner. I hope it is the air freshener and all

seizures stop.

Yep, that crossed my mind, also. But then I thought of the 'build up over time', then 'bang', thing

Thanks for your thoughts.

And thanks also for the suggestion, Polomum. Will do some reading.

Thankyou Jed.

I am somewhat optimistic, but also, realistic.

$1500 is alot just to know either way  But she is more than worth it.
