Rally Obedience

All my Rally equipment has just arrived from the States, so I am ready to GO. So excited.

I plan to start teaching Rally basics in 2009 and since all my learning is from forums, books and DVDs then I would be a prime candidate for a Seminar.

Our clubhouse and grounds at Sutherland are available for a seminar anytime - just let us know when. I can also guarantee plenty of interested people.

How many people from other clubs willing to come to Sutherland Shire?

Oh well, if you're going to Victoria anyway, you should consider a little add on visit to the island state  - Tasmania - specifically the State capital, Hobart, where our club has been doing Rally O this year. (Like you Mrsdog - working from books, DVDs and the Net - not quite the same as having a real life seminar.)

O/T - Hi Noels - check the BC thread in the Breed subforum to see my new little BC boy, Ruaraidh (Rory) all the way from Perth WA - 11 weeks old this Sunday - B/W, amart, loving, gorgeous and Miss Kirra is pleased he's here. They're both asleep under the computer desk right now.

Vic is a go...and yes....I'm coming..no plane booked yet, but I'm a week or so from that chore. Would love to basically try to train the trainers as well...Rally is the up and coming....if there was a small way during this trip, I could help get this going....I'd be thrilled.

I'm so pleased to see that there would be response....

Quick update as I am actually off to judge a rally match (well, two actually, gonna be a busy day!)

I am tentatively due to arrive late February in Vic and will be able to connect with a few folks once I am over jet lag and at the convience of the driver! (I don't think I"ll be tackling the other side of the road stuff for a while, if ever! hehe)

There are a few dog shows up coming on the list in March, although I'm not sure where they are exactly but assuming Vic or ACT, but will find out. I"m sure that we could arrange to put together something to tie into a weekend were the doggie folks are out and about anyway!

I have PM'd Helen with some of the details on the seminars I offer, so if she wants to post that, or PM anyone I'm sure she will. I'm not sure I saved that PM...keep forgetting to tick that little box.

My visit is looking to extend longer than originally thought so I am pretty positive that I should be able to get to some other locations. I'll certainly give it a go!

I am, as mentioned, thrilled with the response about this and very excited to see it happen. I truly hope that many attend and that you enjoy this new sport even half as much as I do, because it just totally rocks my world!

Here is the info for you

I actually will be flying into Melbourne and staying a couple hours away, so easy enough to get there and run a seminar and courses.

My thoughts are train the trainers mostly, but anyone is more than welcome to attend. My basic seminar runs a day and a half...first day...no dogs...technical stuff, rules, signs and what they are. How to mark, why the marks are the way they are. Everything from how to run a match, to how to train the ring stewards and what works in a trial and what doesn't, and why.

I'm a very hands on person..so people will be up on their feet and moving a lot as we discuss signs and what they mean.

next day (if this is the way folks want to go, as about 4-5 hours on day one is plenty and exhausting)

Dogs...courses set up....handlers walk through, dogs go through...we analyze each team and talk about not really what's wrong, but the technique and how to improve it. answer questions that will have come up since the main lecture the first day.

There are fifty signs with CKC rally, so there is a lot to cover. Most of this is strictly the novice level, but if desired, will go over the various signs for the upper levels and explain them thoroughly.

My day and a half course price per person is $50 each. this is for the full experience. People are welcome to attend the second day for $10 (if they can't make the first day, or are not interested in running trials or are teachers) which allows them to run through courses and do actual trialling situations. I usually try to run at least four courses and it usually takes about two hours. There are no materials required to buy, however I'm going to try to bring with me the CKC rule books and if there are clubs that want them, they will be able to take one for reference. I also have the signs electronically which I'll bring with me to pass out to interested parties.

Hope this answers some questions....time frame is late February at this point. I am hoping to tie in some of the areas to existing shows and get a captive audience.

That is truly wonderful news. I am so glad it really IS going to happen.

I am sure we could guarantee a good roll up in Sydney if that is a possible location, but ACT is not much more than three hours away, so that is a reasonable location for some Sydney people.

When you say you are going to tie in with existing events I don't know that Canberra Royal or Sydney Royal would be a good idea. So many of us are already committed to Conformation, Agility, Obedience and Flyball at these events. Don't know if this is useful information for you?

You are just going to be sooo appreciated you won't want to go home!

Well its official folks..flight is booked....but it's going to take me three days (sort of but that date line thing messes with my mind!) to get there.

I'm thinking that no one is going to want to talk/see or deal with me for about a week after that!!! I"m doing some more digging on who's wanting what and will keep everyone posted....

One rule...no laughing at my accent....eh?

Come on NSW people, get in here and let us know that you are interested.

Rally O is going to be the latest and the greatest downunder. There won't be many opportunies like this one, so we need to take advantage.

A few dedicated OB instructors at Sutherland Shire Dog Training Club will be getting together over the Christmas holiday break so that we can work out our strategies and class structure for the New Year. Hope nobody is watching as I am sure our test tube dummies will be very entertaining. No rest for the wicked.........

Way to go: RALLY-O
