Lets hope it doesn't rain!!

You got your wish. The way it rained overnight! I purposely left my hat at home, so it would be sunny & it worked.

Well, what fun we had. And such a busy day. Everyone was tired & so were most of the dogs. Tilba embarrased me in the last round but it turned out to be our 2nd best score. She refused to sit when needed & looked at me blankly as if I was speaking a foreign language.

The rain held off until the end, thank goodness.

Thanks Heather for a great couple of days & giving us a new way to enjoy spending time with our dogs.

Thanks again Heather!

So much for Zero going home and going straight to sleep - he was full of beans and went to get his dumbbell so we could do some training when we got home! He trained without any food in my hand too... only about 6 hours too late!

I have some photos so I'll upload them asap.

Will look forward to seeing them. I only took a few distance shots.

Tilba's curled up in bed asleep. You'd think she'd been out herding sheep all day.

I've got a few photos from the day too. I'll have to have a play with the ones of dogs and handlers in the ring (I was using the wrong lens because I'm lazy) but I did get some good portraits of a few of the dogs:

Some great photos in there!

Want to publically thank the Sutherland Shire club for their hospitality over the weekend and all the work that Noella did to get this seminar off the ground!

The weather co operated for the most part and the turn out and participation was wonderful. Nice to see such different breeds in the obedience ring and there were some very nicely performing dogs on Sunday.

What a wonderful weekend. Heather is so inspiring and made the learning just as interesting as the "doing". Now that we all know the basic how to do things we have to just get out there and improve our own techniques and spread the word amongst others.

Actually taking part in four courses on the Sunday and being judged and getting our marks back for each of them, was so exciting and we were able to see where we went wrong and what needed work in the future. There were the usual tight leads, crooked sits, reading the signs wrong, which were easy to see how to correct. Tightening up the 270's and 360's, particularly the left ones which require the dogs to back up, could take a bit more work. Getting the dogs to back up beside you, even more work, but not necessary in the novice course. Who ever said Rally was going to be easy? I'm keeping a notebook handy and jotting down things as I think of them. There was just so much information in this weekend that my poor brain is bursting.

The improvement with each course was just wonderful to see. We were all gaining confidence and managing to make fewer mistakes. One brilliant team even managed to get a rare "100" and Heather told us she hardly ever gives that score to anyone.

I don't know how Heather does it, she is on her feet the whole weekend and just so bursting with energy and enthusiasm.

So here's the challenge: Which club is going to hold the first Rally-O event? Now that is going to be a momentous occasion.

Noels.

Hey Noels

I knew you would be blown away with the workshop.

Isn't it easy when some one is showing you how to do the exercises.

I agree whole heartily when you indicated that the tight lead, poor execution of turns, not completing the station correctly etc. was the cause of lost marks.

100/100 who was that.? What sort of dog. has the person been doing obedience for a while, tell me more please, as long as that person doesn't mind. Congratulations to you and your dog. Well Done

Sadly, but really happily I'm moving to Mount Clear, Ballarat on 22 June 2009 so I won't be able to continue with Rally-O classes at BDAG. BUT I have two wonderful helpers who are willing to continue with the class. A BIG Thank You to them. They are going to be great assets as far as getting Rally-O up and running.

If possible I'd like to talk Ballaarat Dog Obedience Club into introducing Rally-O. But that is a little while away. I'm going to have a rest from instructing for a month or so and just concentrate on training my Miss Annabell and Gambit doing Search & Rescue and Tracking.

Who's next on the Workshop Calendar?

I shall be off the internet for a while after 19th June and I look forward to catching up on the happenings when I'm reconnected.

Hey Heather, How are you feeling, getting a bit tired yet, or are you still on a high with the feed back you are getting about Rally-O

Wendy

It was a 3 year old Sheltie. Don't know any more details though.

  • 3 weeks later...

trying to get contact information to either of the ladies that attended the Gympie seminar from N.Z. Any help would be appreciated.

BTW...working out the details for the October Townsville event and still picking away at something for Albury NSW (but it's a bit chilly and damp lately to be too serious about it!)

Also, plans are in the works for something to happen in Northern Tassie but no dates at this point. Stay tuned for more info on this and don't forget to get signed up onto the Rally Down Under forum (URL found on page 12)

Hoping to hear more about some of the clubs efforts now that some of the seminars are over and done with.....
