The other thread I posted listing kibble by main ingredients-only didn't give a full picture, ie whether there is grain in the minor ingredients etc, so here's the full ingredient list for premium kibbles. Foods with corn or other vegetable as their main ingredient (PEDIGREE AND HILL'S) simply don't make this list.

This list is divided into two - high protein/fat kibbles and standard protein/fat kibbles.

FIRST, WHAT INGREDIENT DOES WHAT:

PROTEIN

Dehydrated chicken is highest biological value protein (nutrient amino acids) - hydrolysed -> protein peptides -> easier digested

Glutens are plant-based proteins (used as fillers)

Fish meal *may* be preserved with Ethoxyquin, a known carcinogen

Meal - here's an explanation from Natura INNOVA's site:

Chicken meal is the dry rendered (cooked down) product from a combination of clean flesh and skin with or without accompanying bone, derived from the parts of whole carcasses of chicken -- exclusive of feathers, heads, feet, or entrails.

Chicken meal is considered to be the single best source of protein in commercial pet foods. Natura uses high-quality, low ash chicken meal extensively. This ingredient is very digestible, very palatable, and very expensive.

CARBOHYDRATES - all other plant ingredients are carbohydrate -> starch (sugar/energy) and fibre (help digestability)

Ground Corn/Maize - Good source of carbohydrates - may cause skin allergies

I'll try. I was thinking probably best to do it as $ per kilo as they all have different sized bags. I can only go by prices on web sites they're sold through (if they are) though.

This might help - I posted this in the Good Aussie Kibble Thread

Approx Prices & Kgs & Per Kg & Per Dog Weight & Per Day - example being used 38 kg dog and what they suggest to feed if only dry, and a cup being 250grm approx.

Advance - $98ish =15kgs = $6.53 per kilo = 4 cups = $6.53 a day

Optimum - $34 = 8kgs = $4.25per kilo = 4 cups = $4.25 a day

Hills SD - $95ish = 15kgs = $6.33 per kilo = 5 cups = $7.91 a day

Nature's Gift - $19 = 4kgs = $4.75 per kilo = 4 cups = $4.75 a day

Out of interest I did the same for Orijen

Orijen - $120 = 13.6kgs = $8.82 per kilo = 3 cups = $6.61 a day - NOT AS BAD AS I THOUGHT!
