Clicking Mad
no good at this ... nothing to practise with in my backyard I was lying in my parents yard, lining this shot up, specifically using the 75mm-300mm to get that blur with a bunch of other small wildlife and flowers etc, when Chester came bowling over and ruined it, at least that was what I thought as the bee flew off the flower and I snapped at the same time. I was surprised to find this: Then, of course, spent another couple of shoots trying to improve on it and failed some fantastic stuff on this thread! Clicking Mad
thanks kirislin - I suppose I was lucky I, at least, had the settings right before the shot so it wasn't completely unplanned, though I still say flukey that's one cool dragonfly - I like the way the wings are positioned I forgot about my bird pics ... I walked Texas (only because I hate walking anywhere without a dog) down to a park earlier this month because I'd noticed it had quite a gathering of galahs and what are the white parrots? are they galahs too? I'm hopeless with bird names/species - maybe ripley will know? ... and we just sat there and watched and shot for a little while ... these were taken with the kit 75mm-300mm lens Here's the best of them ... these 2 were having a battle for the best spot on that small branch of gum tree:

Clicking Mad
thanks chezzyr ... to be honest never heard of Corellas Am I right in saying that these are galahs, though? they were all hanging out in the same park
Kirislin
Yep the pink and grey ones are galahs. You should buy yourself a bird book, you can get smallish field guide ones.
chezzyr
The Corellas (and Cockies and Galahs) can be quite entertaining as the pictures show. Cockies crack me up laughing when they hang upside down in a tree then suddenly let themselves go and SCREAM!!!!! Big clowns.

AWDRI
Love the geckos. We are planning to have a week in Cairns in Feb, hope there arenice critters to photograph Thanks See if you can get out to the Cairns Tropical Zoo at Clifton Beach. It's well worth the 20 minute drive out of town for all the wildlife you can capture. You can see several of my photos from there in my Red Bubble portfolio. Or pop up top of the casino in town to the Rainforest Dome. Lots of great critters in there too.
Kirislin
Just took this through the window with the 50mm. Probably not what I would've chosen but I've only ever seen lorikeets 3 times before in the 11 years I've been here so I just took a pic with the lens that was on the camera. Taken through the window and cropped alot so it turned out better than I expected.
kja
Here's a bird that was on the boat ramp when we got back from our dive the other day. His leg is all busted up, but didn't seem to phase him too much. Have no clue what he is. Taken with my crappy baby Olympus 720SW
chezzyr
Bird is a Tern. Hazy on species, could be a Crested Tern. Am inclined to think a Crested Tern in non-breeding or immature plumage. Here is a link to an immature and non-breeding adult Crested Tern (not one of my pics - just for reference) http://photogallery.canberrabirds.org.au/i...ted2_Harris.jpg Edited December 30, 2008 by chezzyr
Guest Tess32
Seeing as I'm going through old piccies on my drive, thought I'd post some wildlife piccies (ie, birds, hehe). I really don't have the gear for proper bird photography so when I do it, I do like to play around with them and so no, the colours are not as they were taken Some people will find them overdone, I know that ;) Rainbow Lorikeet - was at Mordi station, they used to hang out at the trees near the police station.. Silvereye I think - I think this was taken at The Best Friend's Retreat Old one I re-edited while bored....was taken outside Werribee Mansion. This one was at a zoo.
