Tim & Tanya
Our 10wk old puppy is barking and scratching at sliding door. This happens when we are sitting on couch and also when we aren't in site. The reason he is doing this, is because he wants in. I don't want this to become an ongoing habit. I try and wait until he stops the barking and scratching then open the door to let him in saying good dog, however this doesn't always happen becasue I just want him to stop... Any suggestions?? Dackel
Hi, He only a Baby who is looking for comfort from you. He still misses his Mom and sibblings. How long do you have your Pup outside? Will he be an outside Dog or Inside, or both? Be patient he will know soon what's right and wrong with your help. Petra and Felix
huski
Does he know the sit command? I would teach him 'sit' when he wants to come in and out - that's what I did with my beagle, so now when she wants to come in she goes straight to the door and sits quietly
Pawprints
Mitch did the same thing. Hard because he came from a home that had a doggie door and mine didn't (getting one soon shhh don't tell him lol) but he couldn't figure out why he couldn't just come in so he jumped up at the door and scratched. If I was in sight, in the kitchen, I turned my back on him and ignored him. As soon as he stopped and sat down, I opened the door. Repeat over and over. Now he comes running to the door and sits. Be patient, I know it's hard to listen to the scratching etc but a little constant and intense training will have him out of the habit in no time. We can't expect them to 'just get it' quickly coz it's annoying you. Thats pups
