laffi
I have found a tick on my golden retriever 2 weeks ago. It was a paralysis tick. I removed it and the vet said to keep an eye on her. She has never showed any symptoms. However about a week after the tick removed, her muzzle (where the tick was found) became itchy and she started rubbing it everywhere, eventually causing a skin infection. Has anyone had any experience with that? I was away when the infection developed (which basically looks like a hot spot) and only came back last night. Clyde
Yes! We are going through exactly the same thing. Behind Esme's ear. Infection really flared up and spread but has settled and almost gone from using Surolan twice daily.

Where can I get it btw? I am going to the vet this avro, would they have it?
puggy_puggy
Surolan is actually used to clean the inside of dogs ears so putting it on your doggies muzzel probably wouldn't do alot laffi. Easiest thing to do would be to bath in salty water and apply some baby's Curash (used for nappyrash and can be bought from chemists and supermarkets) If it is an actual infection like staph, your vet would have to do a swab to find out, you would need some antibiotics and some antibiotic cream. Crisovar
Surolan is an ointment it is not a cleaner it is also recomended for skin infections it has an anti inflamatory action as well. It will be fine on the dogs muzzle.
Clyde
Exactly Crisovar. It's brilliant for skin upsets/infections for horses, dogs and cats so it's always handy to have a bottle around. You will be able to buy it from your vet no problem. eta: It started settling down after two applications, it has almost disappeared after 5 days (it was pretty nasty!). Still a little there now though as I stopped the Surolan too early and she started scratching it again so it flared slightly. puggy_puggy
Ohh I've only ever used it for ear cleaning because of infections and that was ages ago. Deeerr to me. Goes looking though medical basket and finds Surolan bottle and notes that although it is in a bottle that you adminisiter drops out of it does say on the bottle it does treat skin infections. Clyde
Perhaps it has changed Puggy as it's not really the kind of thing which you would easily get 'drops' from as you would expect from standard ear cleaners. It's more of an ointment, quite greasy. Greasy enough to leave a grease mark on the couch after some ear rubbing
