When Is 'moulting' Season?!?

My foxy drops hairs continuously, but this past week my hardwood floors have been carpeted .. in white!

I would assume when changing from winter to spring would be moulting season!?!? or is there no 'season'? Different with different breeds? How many times a year? How long does it take for their coat to drop?

Sorry for being a gumby and thanks in advance for any answers!

Most dogs have 2 actual moult seasons. These occurr when the weather begins to cool and when it begins to heat up. Some breeds, such as the Pug, shed hair all year round and have a heavier shed during moulting.

I find washing and brushing help a great deal.

Thankyou for enlightening me :-)

I am aware that i have a high shedding dog all year round, it just seems to have increased of late and I was hoping it was a case of moulting and not just that the adult coat was finally in (she is 8.5months old) and therefore thinking that this was my future....

I will give her a bath and try get some more out.. currently use rubber brush type thingo, and even tried a rubber washing up glove, but can still pull more hair out with my hands or rubbing her back and fourth by hand.

Just to add to it all, my cat is finally dropping her coat :happydance2:

Thanks again, you guys are a great resource :-)

heehee yes well, I am *trying* to delude myself - I guess there is no going back to the softer puppy hairs.

At least they stay on the floor and don't float around into my food.... I will have to buy more white clothes though LOL

The two breeds that I was choosing between were the mini schnauzer and the foxie... decided in the end would rather vacuum more than pay for clipping.... made my bed, didn't I??!?

hmmm sure you can get some darn nice kennels these days...

Is she entire?

Entire bitches can shed in accordance with their hormonal seasons rather than the environmental temperature.

My bitch was naked during winter and has the most glorious coat just now. She's 6 weeks out from a season and is hanging on to every hair. My boy sheds more sensibly with the seasons.
