Is there an Australian equivalent to SmugMug? IE somewhere to upload proofs so people can look at pics you've taken for them and order prints?

ETA I presume with SmugMug is people wanted to order prints it'd go through an American print lab? :)

I think with smugmug you can disable the pricing etc or so I have been told

but you might have to pay for the pro level. Not sure.

I am happy using my pbase galleries for alot of things and create

private galleries for 'proofs' from photo shoots. I think I pay around

US $23 a year for pbase and have been using it for a few years now.

It's not Aussie though. I use it for displaying purposes,

then they order direct from me.

It's kinda hypothetical anyway, but I was thinking it'd be handy not to have to order from me IYKWIM. To just upload pics and not have to worry about processing orders.

If you buys things through RedBubble are they sent from overseas or Australia?

In my situation I prefer to retain some quality control over the printing process

and know what the prints are like before they go out to the person.

If you don't get to see the prints how will you know the colour and

everything is ok? Monitors vary, labs vary, photo paper varies.

There are probably some online labs where you can set up a proof

share system but cant help on those, sorry. Maybe just google

or someone else might have a better idea.

No, there's not. Not if you wish to use for bulk proof uploading. You don't need to sell through them. For similar reasons to those ChezzyR mentioned, we also prefer to do our own finishing for quality control of prints ordered.

You can't compare Red Bubble in that it does not offer unlimited space, it is fine for the job it does, but is not really a hosting site in the same way as Smugmug. It's not supposed to be: RedBubble is intended to showcase only selected works for sale, not collections of proofs. Big advantage with Smugmug is the unlimited upload, so it can be used as back-up storage.

As with Pbase, you can create private galleries for password-access to proofs on Smugmug. Pro membership of Smugmug is about $120 a year. I believe it is increasing shortly for new members, but old memberships not increasing (yet).
