Found A Tick On My Dog!

Ok I found a tick on my dog (she is on Advantix, last application 9/11!). I removed it. It looks like a paralysis tick, it's very small (couple of mm). She doesn't show any signs at all. Should I still take her to the vet? Will they do anything even she doesn't show signs?

I have pulled a heap of ticks off my dogs over the years Laffi. I have only ever been to the vets once after seeing symptoms.

I am not sure there is anything they could do if you take her in. They will not give you tick serum if she has no symptoms.

Just make sure you go over her again in case there are any more & watch for signs over the next few days. panting, vomiting, change in bark, instability etc. Any of the above probably means she has another one somewhere.

Thank you so much Vickie :o I will keep an eye on her. When I called the vet they were not very clear about giving her serum if she doesn't show signs (I think they just didn't want to say they wouldn't do anything).

Hey there,

As the others have said, don't panic. We found a tick on Xena when we were away earlier in the year. I panicked and rushed her to the vet. They just pulled it off, told us to keep her quiet for a couple of days and bring her back if there were any symptoms.

If you are really worried have a chat to Rowan about his herbal remedy for future.

Cheers

Tony
