Coopz
Hi first post. I have a 2yo exracer greyhound called 'Tee', he is a brillient dog, smart, obedienent, gentle and loyal. He isn't fussed about other dogs but he is obsessed with cats. I don't have one but when I'm out walking him if he sees one it's a bit like a sidewinder missle 'target acquired'. He locks on and trys his best to give chase even if the cat just stands there, he is also a very big and strong boy. Yesterday while crossing a road he saw a cat and just stood there stationary in the middle of the road waiting for the cat to bolt, I had to pretty much pick him up (all 40kg of him) and lugg him off the road. I know they have a strong preydrive but is there any tips for getting him to back off? I try blocking his view if he sees one, or I see it before he does (rarely) I turn around and go another way (which seems to get his suspicions up anyway). The funny thing is his brother is not fussed about cat... any help welcome:)
dee lee
Sorry Coopz, no advice to give- my dog is just as bad as yours. She even goes mental if we go past somewhere where she has seen a cat before. Im hoping for answers here too!

SueM
I honestly do not think you can do anything apart from not letting him get away and always have a muzzle on him, he is high prey drive and a ex racing dog.
Erny
If it were me I expect I would work on the behaviour utilising an e-collar to help. But is this something you want to try to train away from even if she was off lead (I ask because tmk they aren't permitted off lead). If not, then perhaps the use of a different correctional tool will help.
JulesP
I will lend you my panther cat. Doggie will run away next time he sees a kitty

He's always on a lead but I never muzzle him (not required).

Thats good, yeah I dont know if a racing grey with high prey drive can ever be ok with cats, maybe pm one of the Greyhound People on here, Layka or Greymate a couple I can think of. Cosmolo
I agree with Erny. The behaviour can be modified, but just depends on how much work your're willing to put in.
