If Money And Availability Were No Issue...

Just a silly little query that popped into my head today while out shopping for meat and bones for the boys ;) I am curious to know, as the title suggests, if money and availability were absolutely no issue to you (I'm talking you could afford to spend ANY amount per day, and could get your hands on ANY food, be it raw/whole/pre-packaged/whatever) then what would you feed to your dogs?

Some fancy dry food only available overseas? Porter-house? Quail? Lobster? Or perhaps many would stick to what they are currently feeding?

Just curious as to what people think are the absolute best foods possible for canines, in a perfect world where we are all rich and have access to everything :p

Personally - I have no idea!

If money were no object I would have a really cute kitchenhand to prepare a good quality fresh diet with plenty of organic lamb flaps and a little Eaglepack Holistic for variety. Plus he'd have to be the one to give them all spring water to drink (none of that horrid fluoride) as I can't carry all that water.

But he'd have to be cute

 Good answer, can I say ditto to that? :p

Thanks for the replies so far, interesting already

I'd probably alternate days of large meaty roo bones with days of whole rabbit.Once or twice a week I'd feed some form of fatty fish, either large chunks of salmon or fresh sardines. This is close to what I currently feed except for the rabbit, which is hideously expensive around here.

I've got to go and pick a new boss up tomorrow ... it's a white shepherd and for my Mum (well, that's a technicality  ) ... but, what I have fed dogs on before is exactly what I would still use, even if money were no object.

The idea of a really cute kitchenhand is not a bad one, I gotta say! He'd probably have to look and sing like Mark Spano of Australian Idol fame ... just be taller though  ;)

I'd feed the same ie papa's special rice & chicken & herbs + Holistic Eagle Pack kible + lean beef minced at home.

I'd have 10 dogs rather than 2, so the cost of food would go up

Ohhh now THAT'S something I forgot to put ... I'd have at least 10 dogs too!

I'd get whole goat and sheep dumped in my yard for them. A matter of convenience here...

I would like to get them green tripe... A matter of availability there.

Money doesn't restrict what I get them, except I'd rather buy more free-range dead animals for them, for my conscious sake.

WABBITS! Otherwise I'm happy with the balance I have. It's just when Dory decides she doesn't want something. The little witch REFUSES to eat anything but bones for breakfast. Vegie and meat is for Dinner, thankyou.

And the Cute Kitchen hand would be for ME. Dory eats better than me, cos I can't be fagged preparing a meal for myself. I can do hers anyday, but mine?

With money being no object I think I am feeding my dogs pretty much the best diet possible. It just also happens to be the cheapest  (I have a great butcher who sells me mixed bones for $1 a bag - most bags are over 2kg). They get a combination of other stuff which is mostly natural.

My dogs have the shiniest coats that literally glisten in the sun! People comment on them quite often. They also say OMG two labradors that aren't fat!! I dunno how people get fat dogs - mine eat heaps!

I'd get some sheep bought in but they'd stink before they got fully eaten, my dogs don't know when to stop eating, and they'd be all messy from tearing them apart. I think I prefer neat little bones cut up,

ETA Yes a few more whole rabbits and chickens - as suggested by a previous poster.... but from my own disease free stock

Interesting question cassie!

I would probably feed what I feed now being a variety of raw meaty bones and a very small amount of eagle pack holistic. Although if money truly were no object I guess I would probably upgrade the cuts of meat that I buy. Actually if I had the money I think I would buy a butcher shop have someone run it for me and just swan in and out buying the most expensive things for dog food just cos I can! My asian grocery already thinks I'm nuts for buying heaps of large bones and meat every other week and they ask what I'm cooking and I say 'nothing - it's for my dog'!

Will keep the current menu but "upgrade" everything to Organic/Free-range. Maybe steam some large piece of organic wild slamon every alternate day....

I agree totally, with the exception that I'd do the same "upgrade" for the human members of the family

 for starters the menu would change every day...but its so much cheaper buying in bulk so we cycle between 2 different kinds of meat

but another question that begs to be asked - hands up if your dogs eat better than you?

*raises hand*
