Mavrick_27
My Laborador puppy has just been diagnosed with this disorder (HOD), I have since done alot of research. The condition is basically an orthopedic disease affecting the bones of mainly the legs, includes swelling and inflammation of the growth plates. This is very painful for the dog. There is no treatment as such but just supported by painkillers. But it is rapid onset of the disease (he was fine that night but in the morning he was unable to get out of his bed) and it only affects puppies as it is basically bad "growing pains" due to thier rapid growth, and usually only affecting large breed dogs. Just wondering has anyone else come across this condition? Did they implement anything else into their diet, or if reoccurance is more common than what the vet is letting on...? Would appreciate any posts back...Thank you. Edited November 10, 2008 by Mavrick_27
Guest june.andnovas
I've been reading a little about this and from what I've read too much calcuim, protien and exercise can be one of the causes? May I ask what diet your pup has been on? Esp before the onset of HOD? Edited November 10, 2008 by june.andnovas

He isn't over weight, his food is restricted because he is a laborador, but he is have a boost is growth lately.
