Marshall
Hi Everyone, I have recently moved to Queensland from Melbourne and I am in search of a good canine Chiropractor for my beloved 10 year old staffy, Marshall. In Melbourne we had a very good chriopractor who saved Marshall from being put to sleep due to the pain he was suffering after he was hit by a car at the age of 5. Once out of the vet and home I noticed he could not walk properly in his back legs, the vets told me he had nerve damage due to his injuries. 6 weeks after the accident he could no longer walk and was in agony, a friend who bred Bull Terriers convinced me to take him to her Chiropractor and the difference was amazing, after a week of daily treatments Marshall was walking and smiling again. It took a number of months to get him back to his old self, but now you never be able to tell that he was ever involved in the accident. I have kept up the treatments over the years because my beloved friend does still harbour a bit of pain from time to time, and I do believe it is due to his old injury, but once treated he has the look of relief that makes it worth the money. I have been in Queensland now for 6 months and Marshall seems to be struggling a bit at the moment, I would love if anyone could recommend a good chiropractor that really knows what they are doing, as I am relativly new to the area I have no idea where to begin. I live close to Brisbane and I am willing to travel to someone who is good at what they do. Would love to have Marshall back to his happy smilling self very soon Thanks Kerry
Greytmate
Here is a link to qualified chiroprators that are AVA members. Registered Members - QLD Rowan Kilmartin and Tony Smith are both highly recommended.
Marshall
Thanks for that, But I wondering if you have had experience with any of these people? I would much rather use someone that is recommended because people can see results in their animals after a treatment. Think of me as old fashioned, I do believe that word of mouth is the best evidence that people have faith in a person. Honestly I think I am just very protective of Marshall, he is my baby and I would move heaven and earth for him, he is a very special four legged person. I would appreciate any personal recommendations to direct me to someone who is good enough for Marshall. Thanks Kerry
blacklabrador
I've had 6 years experience with Rowan Kilmartin. I wouldn't let anyone else touch my dogs. He is a Vet Chiropractor. Does accupuncture and homeopathy. I think he's awesome. People travel a long way to see him. He's at Ormeau - a little bit north of Dreamworld just off the M1. Marshall
Hi Blacklabrador, thanks for that I will give him a call to see when he can fit Marshall in. I appreciate your comments and will let you know how I get on. Thanks Kerry Edited November 10, 2008 by Marshall
Marshall
I have tried 2 different chiropractors now and I will not return to either. Marshall is no better off. One put him on the table and gave him a very expensive massage while the other refused outright to work on his back and said his neck was the problem. My old chriopractor in Melbourne would actually maniulplate almost every bone in his body, can anyone recommend a good chiropractor, if not I will think about flying him back to Melbourne, his discomfort is really upsetting him (and me)!!! I would also recommend Rowan. Both my dogs LOVE him and can't wait to get on the table for their 3 or 4 monthly visit. (Just to check they are all OK.) He also looks after all their vet needs as well. He combines old school care and straight shooting with an open minded approach to alternative treatments. Greytmate
What about contacting greyhound trainers and seeing who they use. Or see who they don't use The best greyhound trainers in Brisbane either check their own dogs, or use Dr John Murray. I have a trainer friend check mine over for me, but if they are injured I see John. What a greyhound 'muscleman' can actually do is really quite limited. Going into very shady territory there too. If a dog has a serious bone or muscle problem, it probably needs a vet. There are three top ortho vets in Brisbane that I know. John Murray, who no longer has a surgery, Dr Richard Eaton-Wells and Dr Jason Beck from QVS at Stafford Heights. I have seen absolutely miraculous work by both of these last two vets. Amazing stuff. Can your vet give you a referral to these specialists Marshall? And some pain relief in the mean time? Who was your chiro in Melbourne? (they sound amazing) Did they keep records that they could forward to you up here? All the best in your search for a solution Hopefully you will find somebody that can cure the problem once and for all and not just keep you coming in all the time for treatments. Lowenhart
I only take my dogs to Robert Humphreys, he's in North Maclean/Jimboomba. He's trained in Human Chiro (his dad was one and I personally go to his brother for work) and is great with the dogs. Alot of times you think the problem is in one place but it is caused by something somewhere else. I have a lot of faith in him and we have used him for over 12 years. Ibizan
Robert Humphries here too.We have used Robert for many many years, first with our Afghans now with our Ibizans and racing Greyhounds. I do know of someone who flies his dogs up from Melbourne to have Robert look at his dogs.Wouldn't use anyone else.Robert is fully qualified to do people as well. His brother is a human chiro and his father used to do horses. Be very care full who you use, there are a lot of 'chiro's ' out there who can do more harm than good Good luck ,hope you, hope you get Marshall back to his normal happy self Roberts phone is 0418730189
raafy
I live in Cairns and until recently I would take my GSD's to Brisbane to see Rowan Kilmartin whenever they had problems as he is the best. Now we have a chiro in Cairns (Liza Sergeev) who trained under Rowan & is brilliant. I still see Rowan whenever I am in Brisbane with my dogs for shows, but the rest of the time I see Liza. Nicole...
Has anyone had any experiences with the 2 vet/chiros that currently work with Rowan Kilmartin at Ormeau? I rang up to get Lomani in but the only time I don't work, he is out doing horses, and if I want a Saturday appointment that is months away. I'm only wanting her to have a bit of a chiro check up, not for any particular problems so it can wait, but it's hard to commit to anything on Saturdays at this time of year when there is so much coming up. My other option is the other chiros there but Rowan is the only one that I've heard good recommendations about.

I was offered an appt with them on Friday but I opted to wait and see the best I am sure they would work with a similar technique to Rowan. They might be great - actually they probably are but I'd prefer to stick with the man I know (oh and Poppy just adores him).
Jed
Robert Humphries is qualified, his father was a chiropractor, his brother is a chiropractor, a lot of show people use him. I have used him, and got good results. He has had excellent results with 2 dogs I bred. One was diagnosed by 2 vets with luxating patellas, cost to repair $3000 per leg. Robert found his pelvis was out. 2 Visits fixed him. The other had probably fallen off operating table, and could hardly crawl around. Neck out, soon fixed with some physiotherapy by the owners. $40 a visit, no charge if nothing needs to be done. Ph 55477595 0418 730 189 Each chiropractor does not work for all dogs, IMHO. I cannot remember the girl's name who saw him, but Rowan ended up coming in and doing the appointment anyway.
