Can My Puppy Eat Rice?

Who told you that? I completely disagree.

I wouldn't be feeding any dog rice as a main part of their diet. They don't digest grains well and there is no real nutritional value there.

You would be better off feeding a middle range dry food, raw or a mix of both. Raw can actually be quite cheap even for a big dog as you can feed them things like hearts, shanks, necks etc and can get these at supermarkets very cheap.

There's nothing wrong with giving the dog a bit of rice or pasta but only when they have an upset stomach and need something really bland.

When you buy a pup of a big breed the cost of feeding definitely needs looking at. You are already concerned about her movement so I wouldn't be looking at cutting corners in the feeding department. What has her breeder recommended you feed?

What are you feeding her now? Rice and meat as a diet would be highly calcium deficient.. a really bad idea for any pup but a disaster for a large breed one.

I am feeding her supercoat dry biscuits for breaky and a mix of mince, chicken loaf, yoguhrt and rice for dinner with some meat off cuts in between, sometimes.

i am starting to doubt my breeder!

I was thinking the same thing :banghead:

By feeding a cheap, unbalanced diet to a pup just to save $$$$ will only cost you more in vet bills. By feeding a well balanced good diet you will be setting up your puppy for a healthy life and saving on vet bills.

Get a hold of the book "Grow Your Pup With Bones" by Dr Ian Billinghurst. Your local library may have it.

If you are feeding extra meat and veg don't forget to feed some bones as well. Bones are a good source of calcium. Meat has no calcium. Meat contains phosphorous which needs to be balanced with calcium.

What breed is your puppy and how old?
