blacklabrador
In four years of desexing approx 800 rescue dogs we've not lost one YET. I expect that at some point I will because I know that it happens but IMO its not an excuse to not desex a dog that you don't need to show or breed from. pssst - work. Yes Trish *hands on hips* Midol needs his dog to have nuts. It's all about compensation

stormie
Nek - when you talk about cat and rabbit castrates and kitten speys on Domitor, do you mean as a premed, or just with Domitor?
Kavik
I've seen them just with Domitor, nothing else
Nekhbet
just with dormitor. Cat castrations have just been done on other IVs as well. This was a while back, didnt like that vet much ... rabbit castration dormitor + O2 Edited October 29, 2008 by Nekhbet
stormie
Yeah we only do our cats under iv's, but never with Domitor and I've never seen it used just on its own for surgeries either, or with bunnies. Maybe I've just been lucky and been sheltered
Loving my Oldies
How tragic, BB. You and the owners must be devastated. Are they making investigations?
mita
The shock of an unexpected death whlle a young dog is being desexed, is awful for the owner. Man at the back adopted a young greyhound... a failed racer. He prepared all the neighbours for it, as no one had experience of a greyhound as a pet. Within 3 weeks, the gorgeous natured greyhound had everyone in love with him. Our small dogs adored him. He died under anaesthesia during the desexing. His loss just broke people's hearts. His owner was devastated & started to blame himself. Saying thing like, he should have taken him to a greyhound-specialist vet, instead of a local vet. SilverHaze
I know of numerous Siberians who have died while under anaesthesia. The latest one was a young pup (probably only 4 or 5 months old). Siberians are very sensitive to anaesthetic and we caution all owners to only take their dogs to vets who are aware of this. It's a tragic when it happens, mostly because it SHOULDN'T happen if the vet is aware of the breed of dog he has in for surgery.
peibe
So sorry for your loss BB, and tell Bobo owners the same I have had over 170 Shar Pei Desexed, some as young as 8 weeks, never lost one or come close to loosing one I would be asking lots of questions and getting an autopsy done if it was my dog
