Kyra
Thanks very much Jed. I need all the help I can get at the moment. I'll be sure to try all of those things. Will also send Cavandra a PM in the morning I can't quite tell what breed she is, and have only read this thread. She is an APBT. I have spoken to a few members who own them and a couple of them have had the same problem but for nowhere near as long or to this extent. again. Dackel
Hi, Is it possible for you to just put her meal outside on the grass without a bowl and leave her to find it herself? Try also some Satinballs and mix in some Nutrigel. Just a suggestion. Petra and Felix.

persephone
Kyra--- do you have a recent pic of her.. in teh last couple of days? Just so we can see her condition... I would perhaps be ditching a bowl.. and as said.. putting food outside... anywhere different. There seems to be a big problem with her associating bowl/food/pain so changing things may help. All the vet checks in the world won't help find something in her throat/oesophagus/stomach unless they do an endoscopy or xrays or something. I still feel that there is a mechanical problem..with a certain amount of food in her system...she gets a cramp, or pain... and so is reluctant to eat.The problem is compounding so sorry you aren't in a financial position to have extra work done
Tintin Jac
I'm not sure where you are but there may be a vet in your area who can assess your dog for very little expense to you as I know that you haven't got any spare cash at the moment. There is one place in Melbourne that I know of that can help. You can pay a small consultation fee and then whatever you can afford after that for any extra treatment. There may be a similar place in your area or a similar service to help dog owners who haven't got access to the required funds. It might just put your mind at rest if you can get a more thorough vet exam.
Kyra
Our Vet is usually really good and has given us free consults before, even when we weren't low on funds, so if I discussed it with him, I might be able to work something out. Here are some photos of her from last night... Excuse my OH.. this is kyra being her usual self, being a goof and relaxing with my partner. Chewing her teething bone shortly after.. After my partner gave her the bowl of food..she ran away and this is what she was like when he caught her.

pipppy
We have had huge eating problems with our boy. (along with separation anxiety and fence jumping when we are not there and extreme thunderstorm phobia, but that is probably a whole other post. lol) For months and months I would buy special things, chicken, raw meat, pasta, tuna etc etc to make sure we had something he would eat.....then he stopped eating all of that as well and the only thing he would he was BBQ chicken meat or sausages. That was not good for him at all!!! Then he wouldn't eat out of his bowl, only off the floor or ground, then he would only eat if we were standing right there with him!!! I have to say that I have had tears also over the situation, and constant worry, it got so that the whole family were just consumed with getting the dog to eat, no matter what, I use to get a text msg from my daughter, did the dog eat today? Anyway, some one I trusted regarding our dog, told me in no uncertain terms that he was playing games with us and manipulating us to give him what he wanted and was all part of his anxiety. So under much duress I followed what I was told I needed to do. Basically gave him kibble only, (and don't change brands every 2nd week because he wouldn't eat that brand anymore), give him 15 minutes to eat a small amount, take it away for 30 minutes, give him another 15 minutes to eat and then that was it, no more chances until the next day when he got less if he didn't eat the lot the day before. He didn't eat a thing for the first 4 days, i was beside myself but kept going under threat of mutiny by the rest of the family. once he started to eat we increased the amount. (very similar to a teach to eat link that was posted in a previous post, only not quite so strict) Anyways he still has his days when he turns his nose up and walks away, and I am pretty much OK with that now as I can see in hindsight that i was not doing him or us any favours in tempting him with everything i could imagine. It just made him rely on us to provide him with gourmet food. He is just not a big eater, but we have managed to put some decent weight on him now, I think about 5kgs in a few months, which he badly needed. He only gets a bone or special treat if he has eaten all his kibble now. Looking at the pics of your girl, she looks ok, our boy got soooo skinny, to the point of it was embarrassing when visitors would comment how skinny is your dog!! So I am just trying to say, I have really been in the same situation, Its obvious you love her very much, just like we love our Billy and thought we were doing the right thing. Our vet said there was no reason he wasn't eating, except that he knew it would get him what he wanted. Turns out it was true, it wasn't easy, and still isn't sometimes, but we have had success and I don't stress nearly as much. Good luck. poocow
My dog had a problem where he would only eat out of a specific bowl. I eventually got a new bowl for him and hes happy as larry now with his special yellow bowl. I spoke at length to a behaviourist about eating disorders in dogs - his basic philosophy was to give the meal for 15mins and then if they don't eat take it away. Have you tried feeding her from the ground? Moistening with gravy? Dogs do pick up on stress so try to make meal times really happy times.
Kyra
Thanks Billiam it sounds very much like what kyra is doing. However... she willingly ate a few mouthfuls of vitabritz and warm milk mashed up tonight :D
Nekhbet
you sound like you're hovering around her and contributing ... catching the dog when it got scared?! put the bowl down and walk away, leave it there and ignore her behavior. In 20 minutes come back and pick it up. You stress to much over her food and now she's stressing as well. She no way looks like she's in immediate danger of starving to death so ease up on her for a while. My rottweiler lived almost 3 weeks with no food in him, just a drip, so a healthy dog not eating for a couple of days will not kill her. Stop fiddling with the food Stop worrying about the dog give her a tiny meal even just on a plastic plate or on the ground, walk away, chill out in front of the telly and when your show is over go collect whats left (if anything)
Kyra
Just an update, we went and bought her a new ceramic bowl and went to City Farmers and picked up a sample of Eagle Pack, gave her that for dinner that night and she actually ate it! My mum let me borrow some money to buy her a big bag of Eagle Pack so I got a 15kg bag and she will eat the biscuits but nothing else, I'm not fussed though as it's a decent food. I'm so relieved it's not funny. I hope she continues eating it and thanks so much for all the help. Oh forgot to say a HUGE thank you to Fady who posted me out samples of different foods for Kyra, she ate the Orijen and I think that's what got her back on her food in the first place.. Thank you so much!! Edited December 2, 2008 by Kyra
Tiggy
I feed my Staffords Eagle Pack Holistic and they do really well on it.
BigBen
I wouldn't be worried... She's peeing and pooping, she looks in great condition.. It could be if you keep on pampering her regarding food, she'll end up being overweight...
