It's a bit messy - I could probably consolidate down to 3 layers or so layer 1 darkens and adds the soft focus effect (masking out some areas to lessen the effect where I want some extra sharpness), layer 1 copy is a duplicate of layer 1 to increase the amount of the effect. The curves layers brighten or darken or change contrast on selected parts of the image (curves 2 and 4 actually don't have any effect, the mask is all black, I could delete those layers).
