grotty_rotty
Hello there, Falco (GSD) is now 27 weeks old and it has only been in the past 3 weeks that he is been doing this.... OK... we are home, if we walk near the back door and he is asleep or snoozing on the back patio he wakes up barking (more of a woo woo bark as his voice has not broken) and growling, fur up as he comes to the door and upon seeing us he is fine and tail wagging fur down. But it happens all the time, very much like a flight or fight response when waking. I have never had a dog do this before... do we just ignore him?????? Kirty
He is probably just getting a bit startled when he wakes up, and goes on the defensive. Is he a nervous pup at all? I wouldn't be too worried.
persephone
Whilst not being worried is ok- What do you do/say to him on these occasions?
Jed
I think he has reached adolescence, and his guarding instincts are kicking in. He is acknowledging someone is there, and doing what he is supposed to - and then he realises it is you.
grotty_rotty
Kirty he is not nervous, and approaches instead of retreats when this happens so I either ignore him and keep doing what I was doing or if it happens when he was in deep sleep I go out and chat generally to them both. That is what I think Jed.... Thanks guys.
