Herding Styles - Kelpie Vs Gsd

I have taken Kaos herding a few times, gone to trials and seen them work, and seen videos etc so have a fair idea of how they work.

However I don't know much about how GSDs work, except that they are supposed to work differently and more upright with less eye.

There is a lamb a few doors down from us, people have as a pet. Sometimes it is in the front yard when I walk the dogs (fenced). Kaos was of course interested but I can get his attention easily, Zoe interested little more work to get her attention at first, now she is fine. Diesel is VERY interested! Today he stopped, slightly crouched and seemed to be giving lots of eye? Took a bit to get his attention then was ok to be walked past. I have not taken him herding. I have a feeling he would be hard to control on sheep, and I get the feeling he would be rough. I am not interested in herding with him, just thought it was an interesting observation.
