It looks great!!!! Such a huge improvement already

What are you feeding him now? what did you switch from?

It looks a million times better doesn't it?!

I am so relieved that it seems to be healing well, he has a little bit of fluid in one spot, but nothing too worrying.

He was on Orijen which was FANTASTIC, but I was running out and couldn't get to my source so I switched him to EP and he has been itchy  he does best on the Orijen with no grains at all.

I have been told that Vitamin E oil put onto the scar helps to reduce scaring and keep skin supple. I have tried it on myself and it worked quite well. I have shown against and been beaten by a Dobe that had a hairless patch on his show side about the size of a large hand fingers fully oustretched. He got bitten or scratched by a cat and got a nasty infection that under ran his skins and it scared and he lost all the hair. I think that your boy will be fine as it is not a coat or skin probelm and many dogs have scars - not that large mind you, but as long as he is able to move correctly and his coat mostly grows back I don't see there should be a problem. Oh and please do not feel guilty for his injury, hindsight is a wonderful thing, but there was know way you would have even begun to imagine that this would happen after getting xrays for hip scoring!!!! Hope all is going well and I would love to see pikkies of him when he is back in the ring - as I know he will be.

  • 1 month later...

Hi Guys,

Well after being internet-less for the last month we are finally back on! YAY!

We moved just befor Christmas so sorry for the lack of updates.

Beau is doing well, his hair is starting to grow back wher it was clipped (not helped by the dodgy clipping job BTW! ) He has a large, dark scar and still some puckering at one end, I am hoping it will smooth out as time goes on.

Here is a pic from today, he is happy and pretty healthy. He is getting fitter again after not being able to do anything for quite a while.

I was feeding him Orijen, but since the cat food thing have switched back to EP, but really I am not that happy with it. I have heard Artemis is quite good, I really want something that will promote healthy coat growth, as his injury really took its toll on his coat also I don't think he is as mature as he should be at this stage. I am hoping a good quality food will help him out a bit.

hmmm thanks laffi, I think I will try the Artemis next. I remember being told it was good, might have to do some research.

He was having VAN omega blend oil, but it started to reallly upset his tummy (lots of gas and yucky loose poos) so he is off that for now.

Great to see an update for Beau! So glad he is doing so well now, he has been through such a lot.

Re the food, Coprice is Australian made and made with Australian rice but not sure if you are avoiding just wheat, corn etc or rice as well.

Big Goldie hug to Beau!

Diet will be a tricky one but bear in mind via the meds etc etc he will most likley blow his coat anyway & it could remain a tad off until its all out of his system.

The food wont mature him ,maturity has to do with the lines & the individual dog. With my large breed showdogs the slower they mature the happier i am.

You often find those dogs who arent old early live a good healthy age.

You see some goldies that look so old at 4/5.

I am currently using EP at present do to a big growth spurt in my young dog.His coat isnt as great on this but im happy to weigh up the evils at them moment.

I feed all my adult coated dogs pro plan sensitve skin & stomachs & found is superb for there coats plus raw etc etc.

When my boy is ready he will be switched over but he has also done a massive puppy coat change so i have to take that into consideration with his coat condition.

His cot looks good in the photo for the tye he has

Thanks guys

Taters - I might try fish oil capsules and see how he goes on them.

AF - he is fine with rice it just seems to be corn and wheat that give the biggest reactions.

Setterlvr - You are right about the diet - I just feel that at the moment I need to find something extra good to support his system, since he invested so much in getting better. I have to keep in mind also that he is an outcross, so will take loger to mature than some line bred dogs, the litter after him are about 6 months younger but look more 'finished' if that makes sense?

We will keep plodding along, hopefully one day he will be back to his lovely looking self.

Wow he looks fantatic :) So glad to hear Beau is going well.

Fish oil would be a good supplement to give, also sardines in oil are great for promoting healthy coats, you could also try one of the juice like Noni, Goji or Mangosteen to boost up his immune system after all he has been through :p
