Introducing A Pup To Other Dogs!

Hi there.

Last weekend my my partner & I were lucky enough to be picked from what I would assume to be many others that had put their hand up for an Aussie Bulldog pup, what a little cutie he is too :) I'd been brought up with Pomeranians & Rotties from Mum & Dads sides though Kato will be the first dog my partner & I have had as our own so thought I'd ask a couple of simple questions here.

I was hoping to get some opinions/advice on socialising my pup with other dogs @ as a pup. He'll be 8 weeks old & have his up to date vaccination/shots though what possibilities are there of my little pup catching diseases from other dogs? I've read that Parvo can linger in environments for up to 6 months so taking him for a play in the park might not be such a good idea aswell as having him playing with pops Fox terriers may not be either.

Many more questions to come & I look forward to your replies on this.

Here's a pic of Alfie that will be known as Kato once he's ready to come home next Sunday.

Awwww, Alfie is so cute. I want to give him a big huge. Congratulations on being chosen as his parents.

From what I was told by my puppy's breeder it is not safe to take them out to public places until they are fully vaccinated. That means waiting until their last puppy vaccinations (although I do take my puppy out but I always carry him).

I could be wrong, but I believe as long as you are socialising your puppy with other dogs that you know are up-to-date on their vaccinations and the 'play date' is taking place in someone's home (reducing risk of germs) rather than a public place, it is quite safe.

When I got my goldie (9 years ago) I was encouraged by breeders to take her out everywhere when I first got her. But I only took her to friends' homes where I knew their dogs were up-to-date on vaccinations.

The old days are gone when you couldn't take your pup out until about 4 mths old which was after their socialisation period. As said as long as you know of ppl with friendly, vaccinated dogs its ok to let them together. Puppy pre school is a good idea, all puppies are at the same stage with their vacs.

I took Tilba to my obedience club & had her in her crate or carried her. After classes she was allowed to say hello to some of the dogs.

You can carry your pup on walks & encourage the ppl you meet to say hello to Kato.

He is very cute & welcome to dol.
