kamuzz
Quite a few people have recommended adding Ester C to my dog's diet to help with his arthritis. Any ideas on the dosage? (We are talking about 30kg of GSD here) And where is the best place to buy this from? (He is already on JointGuard)
Danois
Hi Kamuzz I got mine from GNC but have also seen it at chemists and those Vitamin stores. The other option is to use non-buffered Vit C tablets.
Pawfect
I get it from my local Health Food shop. I prefer the powdered version rather than the tablets, so I can just sprinkle it over their food....but someimes the powdered version is harder to come buy (but they're happy to order it in for you!)....The brand I use is Wagner. Golden Rules
I got mine from the health food shop, and the latest lot from www.holisticanimalmedicines.com I have a 35 kg goldie - he gets a teaspoon a day. If you haven't used it before start with maybe half a teaspoon a day and gradually increase. Too much can cause 'dire rear' ;) Every dog is different so you may have to experiment to start with as to how much your dog will tolerate. Excellent stuff though
Monah
I have used it before and got mine from a healthfood shop. I use glucasomine and it has been excellent. I was wondering if ester c was the right thing to use so consulted my orthapedic (animal) specialist as I noticed nothing different about my dog whilst using it, and the improvement from gluc. was obvious. Anyway, he told me not to bother, there is no evidence at all that it does anything and he does not advocate it.
Cosmolo
I notice a difference when my boy with HD and ED has it. We get ours from vitamin king.
ashka1
The discount chemists, you can get tablets or powder. I have seen some remarkable diferences with it in dogs with HD and also very crooked frount legs, down in pastern etc.I would give 2000mgs a day, if the dog gets the runs drop it back a bit. Have a look at these links http://www.workingdogs.com/doc0039.htm http://www.yourdoghealth.com/dog_chondroitin.htm
SparkyTansy
I too noticed a major difference when my boy was started on this. I get mine from the health food shop - i ge the tablet for at the moment because the boy doesn't eat the powder cos he only likes dry biscuit and won't lick the bowl!! Tilly
We used to get ours from a local health food shop but generally they had to order it in. I used the powder On the days our boys had dry food they got the Ester-C mixed in with an egg and Di-Vetelact (sp?) milk to make a milk shake.
