Mina Posted September 30, 2008 Share Posted September 30, 2008 I have just witnessed a very distressing thing this morning. I collected this boy from the pound yesterday and he just did not look right. We have kept him in isolation as we do with any incoming dogs unvaccinated, but his guy especially as he looked extremely depressed. He had been there 7 days and unclaimed. I asked the staff before taking him if he had been sick at all. They said he was fine. I say he would be approx 3 years old and in okay condition, not thin or mangey. This morning, I checked on him first thing, this was around 6am. He seemed a little better and sitting up and even came up to me a the gate. Whilst cleaning out the other kennels, I hear a banging, repetetive sound coming from his kennel and he was upside down and what appeared to be having a siezure. He was frothing at the mouth. It was absolutley awful to watch, not knowing what to do. I rang the vet (and woke him) and he asked for us to bring him in ASAP. He is there as I type this. My husband had to drive him as there is no way I could have driven safely as I am still shaking from waching him. Also I have all the kids still sleeping. Please can someone tell me that having siezure is not completley the end for him? We will do whatever it takes to help him. I am not normally on this section of the forum or have been on DOL much lately, but I felt I needed to get some help with some answers if not some emotional support. I already had someone want to adopt him but I told them I did not like the look of him, health wise and that he would need to stay here until we can observe him. He is such a beautiful boy and really hope that he pulls through. How long does a dog have to be having a siezure to cause some damage? Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Could not get too much more info as he was helping the vet, wrong time to ring. His temperature was so high and even after all the drugs the vet had given him to settle the siezures, he did not stop. I did not even get the chance to get to know this beautiful boy. Thomas my father's welsh springer spaniel passed away at 8 from a massive grand mal seizure, it is extremely distressing to watch and my father was so devastated by it he ended up hospitalised with pneumonia. Thomas had the very occasional petit mal (small) seizure in previous years, but then suddenly it just escalated into one massive one. My daughter has just phoned me to say Monte is in the middle of a seizure cluster at the moment. It is so hard when you are not there with them.
