westiefan
My westie had a very black nose and I have noticed in the past few weeks that the colour has started to fade Is there anything I can do? or will it go darker again?
Bully
Hi Westiefan, I'm sure that there was something on here not long ago, or I read it elsewhere. I think that it had something to do with a diet deficiency. May have been kelp or copper. I'll look up my dog books later. Hopefully someone else will know

Bully
Another thought. Does your dog use a plastic food or drinking bowl? That can sometimes do it. Switching to a ceramic bowl is better
eugene
Kelp in the diet helps with pigmentation......although probably just a bit of winter nose...it should come right.
Baileys mum
Glad you stated this thread Westiefan, as I was going to start a similar one. My Bailey has a black nose too, but I have noticed it has started to fade into a dark brown colour recently & was wondering why this could be happening. I feed him Eagle Pack Holistic, so I thought he was getting a balanced diet, but I might add some Kelp In his food & see if it helps. ETA: He eats from a ceramic bowl, but drinks from a plastic, so I might get him another ceramic bowl for his water. MalteseLuna
I think it's also related to how much sun the dog gets or age - my parents dog used to have a black nose and now its a brown color. Luna's nose get a little lighter during the winter but now that its spring and she suns herself its getting nice and dark! I love the dark pigment against the white hair
ellz
Google "winter nose". Very common for noses to fade at this time of the year. Vitamin D and exposure to sunlight will help as well as kelp and if you can get it, some Ironcyclen.
peigirl
My boy gets winter nose too over the cooler months. Summer is coming so the pigment will soon be back to normal. I wouldnt think its anything to concern yourself with.
