Daily Vomiting

Hi guys

Just wondering if I could tap into the experiences here on DOL. My main boy Chester is vomiting food in the morning, it's gotten worse and he's now vomiting every morning without fail. There's undigested food in there but it wouldn't be the whole meal from the night before. We've tried all sorts of food but it's made no difference. He was quite bad this morning and apparently is really laid low today.

Has anybody else experienced vomiting like clockwork?

Taking him to the vets tonight, fingers crossed he's ok.

On and off for a couple of weeks. It's taken this long to try all combinations of food we could think of - we originally fed dry with a vit supplement powder, so teh first thing we did was stop the powder. He was fine for a day or so then vomited again. Then we tried a different dry. Then we tried raw chicken or beef mince with the dry and then raw with rice, then cooked chicken with rice. We've been progressively getting blander and blander and he'll be fine the next day or so but nothing has worked completely! The last couple of days hes gotten worse and is vomiting every morning no matter what. Any food we give him is something that he's had before with no ill effects.

I must admit I'm stumped.

Edited to specify it was sporadic in the beginning and has just gotten worse over the last day or so - that wasn't quite clear before!

My boy used to vomit 2-3 times a day. Mostly bile though and food on the odd occassion. He has a whole host of problems that only my vet can pronounce :scared:

Have you tried breaking his meals into smaller amounts?

There could also be a blockage in the system somewhere?

Best bet is to get to a vet quick smart.

8 months of it - every night without fail.

My vets did everything but cut him open.

The option was there, but i went to a natural vet who after talking to me for an hour, gave me some drops, she some how worked out he was stressed, and gave me things to fix it - No idea if it was all real, but it worked.

Good luck

Thanks guys.

He's usually fed once a day at 6.30pm, this has been the case ever since puppyhood. His vomit contains undigested food, always. The dry food we feed is roo-based primarily, with corn and chicken as the 2nd and 3rd ingredients.

The vet tonight said that he could feel a lump in his bowel region, the causes could be a foreign body that Chess may have swallowed, twisted bowel or possibly a tumour (though he said he doubted the last was the case). My boy's been kept overnight for the very first time in his life to have x-rays and possible surgery tomorrow, I won't know more until the vet rings me. I'm really trying to stay positive on this one.

I'll let you know as soon as I do.

Em

My girl had surgery on her stomach to remove the object. After a couple of days in the vet hospital she was allowed home and had a really good recovery. Aged me when I found she had gone into the garden and discovered another rubber toy and was starting to break that up! That got removed and no more toys like that are around when she is!

Em, I'm sure your boy will be fine, he's in the best place to find out for sure what the problem is.

We did surgery on my Stafford girl for a very small intestinal tumour that we found by ultrasound, the only indicator was that I felt she had pale gums one day, did the paranoid Vet Nurse routine and ran some biochemistry. Both of my favourite Vets (without talking to each other) said her gum colour was normal and she didn't look like a dog with cancer e.g. a bit overweight, fantastic coat and muscle condition etc.

BUT

As we went in we also found a mass in the actual stomach, I can remember my Vet saying "it's plastic, feels like a USB or something" it was a furry toy mouse from one of the cats, totally hairless (stomach had broken down the hair) but the plastic shell remained, I had no idea she'd eaten it, she's not the type of dog to eat stuff like that.

If they don't find anything consider IBD or a maldigestion problem....

Hope you get some answers.

Mel.

Lucky I threw the remains of my cats toy mouse out the other day! my dogs are in love with cat toys! they are toy dogs so I guess they are the right size for them, however, they almost eat the toy mice whole!!!!!!

Well, I've spoken to the vet. He can see a large blockage in his large intestine which he thinks is a mass of powdered bone (can't be sure until he gets to it). He says that it's far enough back to be able to reach it via the anus and then send him home with laxatives and enemas to shift the rest (great fun!). So hopefully he won't need surgery and I get my boy back tonight

Poor baby. His food had no where to go.

What sort of bones do you feed? Might be an idea to switch over to softer ones that are from the non weight bearing parts of the body.

Also you could add some sardines or oils like flaxseed or Omega 3.

And maybe some more food processed veggies.
