poochmad
Hi all. We currently live in the Southern Tablelands and were told by our vet that ticks aren't an issue in our area. However, I just finished reading the pinned tick thread and realise that Sydney is a high risk area...and as we are going to Sydney this Saturday, now I'm very concerned. Can anyone please advise of quick acting medication/collar we need to purchase to ensure our pooch is safe? Also, do you think we should be protecting him against ticks regardless of what our vet says? Thanks Meg
ruthless
Whereabouts are you going? Some areas are fine. I'm in the Eastern Suburbs and the dogs don't go offlead in any bush areas so it's not a huge concern. I hear Northern Beaches is a problem area. wagsalot
Im in the Shire and theres ticks out Gymea way. I found Preventic tick collars to be good. I use them along with Frontline We had a huge season for ticks a few years back and everytime Riley came inside there'd be a tick crawling on him. The collar really helped then. poodlefan
Poochy, I'd suggest you use Advantix. It's a spot treatment that will provide quick protection.

My understanding with this treatment is that it should be applied a week before travelling to affected area - will I have enough time to ensure he's covered? Thanks Wagsalot - I'm glad I asked. I asked the vet before seeing your post and they advised that unless I was going to the 'beach' I didn't need to worry...but the map in the pinned section shows the whole of Sydney as being a risk area... Oh. And the idea of ticks crawling over your pup sends shivers up my back...eek!
Clyde
. I asked the vet before seeing your post and they advised that unless I was going to the 'beach' I didn't need to worry... They are often the worst areas. Please correct your vet before they pass incorrect info to someone else. Have a great trip

I don't have a pack here to check.
Clyde
I would have thought that too PF. 24-48 at most. I have a packet here but a purring Trevor on my lap, so will check when I'm up next.
