SwaY
NOT MY Dogs, before you ask My neighbours have gone away and im minding their dog (at there house) He is limping but not, weird i know. Puts it on more when you watch him (stafford X) I checked his pads nothing in there, felt around. BUT i did notice on the foot/pad his is favouring the inner two toes are not as tight as they are on the foot. On the good foot you can push down on the knuckle and extend the nail likes cats On the sore foot the toes seem to fall to the side and seem to be wobly and not as tight as the other side I have called the owners, they said "he'll be right" Im going to investigate some more before i tell them im taking him to the vets. Rysup
Does it hurt him when you play with the toes?
SwaY
Does it hurt him when you play with the toes? When i press harder then normal, he tries to mouth my hand. That's him telling me it's sore.
New Age Outlaw
Sounds like damage to the ligaments that hold the toe in place...may not be completely disloctaed but getting there. Silver used to have a toe that "popped out" occasionally...very painful and she used to scream when I put it back in place. It's a pretty common racing injury...I have found that taping the affected foot if the dog is going to be running (eg at the park etc) provides support for the ligaments. They can take a really long time to heal completely.
SwaY
He is now starting to lift the paw in the air. I spoke to my neighbours, i told them i will take him to the chiro on Thursday if he does not get better.
shantiah
Have to agree with NAL. My greyhound has pulled toe ligaments a couple of times. Tape the two toes together with elastoplast (the white one) about 1cm wide. Will take between 3 and 6 weeks to heal so you will have to redo the tape a few times. Toes may remain swollen looking over the joint even once healed. Chiro will do little but a good grey vet will be better Also she has a bone chip fragment in one toe. this was extrmemly painful. Muchmore than the pulled ligaments. She also had pulled ligaments at the same time. The toe refused to heal and she was lame all the time. After 2 weeks we xrayed an found the chip. The foot was placed in a rigid cast type thing and took over 6 weeks to heal. Since it was a middle toe we opted not to remove unless it refused to heal but now several months on it is good except she still occasionally short steps on that side Edited September 16, 2008 by shantiah
