Jellybean Chick
Hi Guys, Well I got back the results of my labrador's hip and elbow testing! It's a fantastic score hips 1:1 elbows 0:0! So now I need to get his eyes tested. Can anyone recommend a specialist/vet to do the testing preferably in the South-West Sydney area? If there is a good one elsewhere in the Sydney area I am willing to travel.

poodlefan
Do you want a physical eye exam or the DNA test.. or both? There is a Sydney Veterinary Eye Hospital around Parramatta? I think.
Christina
Any vet can do the DNA test. Its a simple swab that is sent off for the results. For a physical exam contact the canine association. Here in SA they usually have a breed club bulk testing date, they test all breeds at them, for a reduced rate. Maybe similar there. Jellybean Chick
Thanks guys I'll check them out Btw poodlefan, I'm not sure which one I'd rather, what is the norm with breeders? I'm new to this.
madredeperros
It is better to do both as the physical exam can find things like cataracts while the DNA test is perfect for PRA etc. The physical can only see signs of PRA after the dog is already showing them which is not good if he already has pups on the ground by then. Good to hear you are testing though & congratulations of the great hip/elbow scores
periannath
Dr. Mark Billson at SASH, North Ryde 029889 0289. He treated my MBT's lens luxation. He is ANKC accredited. He is my preference in Sydney for approachability and manner with the dogs and is very dedicated. Book early though, he is a favourite with many! poodlefan
Thanks guys I'll check them out Btw poodlefan, I'm not sure which one I'd rather, what is the norm with breeders? I'm new to this. I'd do both. The DNA test would only have to be done once. But I'd defer to experienced Lab breeders on this one anyway. Any heart issues in the breed?
