my lovely neighbour jen, has a 10 month old cav, who is constantly at the vets, she nearly lost her a few months ago to pnumonia (sp) :mad

the vet thinks the throat, palate etc is ok, checked when desexed, but thinks its the hairs inside ( not sure where), not sending the mucas to the right place.

she breathes heavily, and goes a couple of weeks before getting very sick, needing antibiotics .

the vet has advised her to go to a specialist for surgery( camara one), but that it may not be curable anyway. :mad

she has spoken to her breeder, who has never had any problem like this.

anyone had anything like this ?

Is it kind of like Cystic Fibrosis in humans?

I was going to suggest that maybe the dog has a hiatus hernia which is when the stomach moves up into the thoracic cavity. This can cause phenomia and the dog to have a heavy breathing and a cough. Usually the vet will have to inject dye into the dog in order for the xrays/images to show up.
