Pailin
My *darling* puppy has decided that she doesn't already have enough to chew on and decided to chew completely through my outdoor freezer power cord  . Luckily it wasn't on as I was getting an electrician out to install an outdoor power point.... So I have two questions; 1. Does anyone know if the power cord can be replaced? She chewed it completely off and left about 20cm of cord still attached. I need it to get all of the raw meats and bones to freeze for her so the little duffa did herself a disservice in the long run . 2. Is there anything that I can do to discourage chewing? She is a big chewer (sp?) and has plenty of toys and crap to chew on. She also gets lots of bones, chicken necks ect. She gets lots of attention as I am a stay at home mum and the kids and I (toddler and baby) spend majority of the day outside. I socialise her with my mother's 2 dogs and my sisters dog and take her to the nearby park every couple of days or for a short walk to the local shop. Any advice would be great! ETA- She is a 9 week old (although I think she may be a little older) mix breed from the RSPCA. They had her down as a staffy cross and I think there is a bit of bull terrier thrown in. She is a big girl though which is what makes me think she is older than 9 weeks.....either that or she has a bigger breed in her. Elle9
OH MY GOODNESS! How lucky was that that it wasn't turned on. Sorry cant be much help as to replacing the cord but I think it is possible. Hope the chewing stops soon.
Kirty
I am pretty sure cords can be replaced. You might need to get an electrician to do it though (which will probably cost almost as much as a new freezer!) but if there is a sparky coming to do the point, he can probably fix it for you then. My OH's Dad fixes all his own cords when they get damaged, so I know it can be done!!

We were definitely very lucky that it was unplugged, especially since I was considering running an extension cord through a window to plug it in but hadn't got around to it yet. Thank god! I really need that freezer and cannot afford to replace it at the moment. Luckily the sparky that is coming is a family friend so if it can be done it shouldn't cost me a lot . I'll ask him when I can get a hold of him....I just really needed reassurance that it was fixable because I couldn't find anything when I googled it. Thank you . Elle9
I have found over the last few months that a stern no or arhhhhhh does the trick. As soon as he listens to you lots of praise and offer him a toy that he is allowed to have. I have started this from a young pup as yours is and have had no problems with mine. She is now 8 months and has never really chewed up anything except she does love soxs.
Kirty
I think its pretty simple - hope so anyway! I know how you feel too - when my girl was younger, she chewed through all the wires on the pool filter. And it WAS on!! When mum picked up the loose end, she got a shock! No idea how Maisie didn't electrocute herself!!
BJ.
Just a small point before you go to all the trouble and expense of replacing the power cord (an easy job for someone in the know), think of a way you can connect without the pup being able to get to it. Sure as eggs if she can she will.
Elle9
Maybe run your cord throught a piece of conduit or pvc pipe might be the go.

Thats what I have done with cats but a pup may be able to chew through both? Depends how determined she is.
Fozzie
This has happened to me before. One of my labradors chewed through the electrical connection on the hot water service twice! Lucky he didn't manage to electrocute himself. For some reason he just lost interest in it thank the lord. But what I would suggest you do, a little over the top maybe, but you don't want to risk your pup hurting himself by chewing again is: - try and cover it in some sort of tubing; and - ask your vet to provide you with some anti-chew liquid and coat onto the tubing. My vet gave me some in a little bottle. It is similar to the stuff that you put on your nails to stop chewing on them. I gave a toy to my other labrador which unknown to me had managed to get a little of this stuff on it. He was not a happy camper! We tried chilli paste on the connection but that wasn't a deterrent! I have heard that Vicks Vapor rub could do the trick or you may be able to spray the cord with citronella to keep the pup away.... Good luck!
