Oliversmum
In the shower! I don my cossie, put the big boofas in the shower and use the detachable shower head. Makes it really easy & the dogs get a warm wash instead of cold out of the hose (Sometimes nice & refreshing in summer). I just spray & rise the shower recess after we are done. GoldD
In the bath with a shower attachment however this will have to change as 28kilos and still growing and a double coat is making it a very long, slow and back breaking method!
~*Shell*~
I'm buying a hydrobath in the next couple of months - Zero refuses to get into the bath since he slipped in there and he's too big to lift in. I tried the shower, but he panics a bit so it's hard and he's frightened so i don't like doing it. For the moment, i'm taking him to the groomer and hopefully will book him in this week because he's starting to smell like wet dog even when he's not wet. CBL
4Paws here on the forum gets the honour of bathing Patch in her hydrobath He is hilarious - he loves her, yet hates everything about the bath - I have to lift him in. His legs shake so badly that when he leans against the bath, the whole thing shakes. Yet once it is all over he is as happy as larry :nahnah: (cause then it is treat time)
Paulp
My 2 labs get bathed in the corner spa although lifting my big 36kg boy in is not easy. I don't think a normal bathtub would be big enough. Niether are enamoured with the process but they tolerate it. Use a thing called a vortex washer I got from BigW for about $20. The valve in it expired after a couple of months but I attached the head from it to the butt of a garden shower watering thingy and now it works great. It gets right in under the coat to lift out dirt and shampoo.
oze50
Hello AllThis may seem like a silly question but how do all you big dog owners bath your dogs? You can't bath them in the laundry sink like little dogs. I have been trying to do it in the shower but they hate that (and no I'm not in there with them) what do you find easiest getting a professional? outside with a bucket???? I would love to know. Thanks I washed my setters in the bath, they climbed in on their own and were fine. Just a note to those bathing their dog with the hose, cold water does not get rid of dirt or smells and also why would you put a dog through that discomfort in winter!!!!!!! Jeez, would you shower outside?? They feel the cold just like we do, they may be big tough looking dogs but they still deserve a warm bath IMHO
tracylacy
We take Ghost (25kg Husky) into the shower with us. We have a shower cubicle with sliding door. I just put my bathers on and jump in with him. I close the bathroom door and when he's done having a shower I ket him shake in the bathroom (he won't do it in the shower - I don't think theres enough room for him) and use my old towels to clean up the mess. We don't bath him very often so it's not as much hassle as it sounds. Only problem is that if we shower him while he's in the process of blowing his coat it takes me ages to get all the hair out of the drain, it's worse than my long hair
greytdog
I usually take Bianca to the dog supply shop where they have a DIY hydrobath you can use for $4.50 (I also buy the dog meat from there so it is handy). They have a dryer, but I don't use that. I don't actually use it like a hydro, ie put the shampoo in the bath to recirculate, I only use it as a wet down and rinse off b/c I can get the shampoo worked in better with my hands than with the hydro. Plus it uses too much that way, and I have to use sensitive skin stuff on her, which is expensive. I sometimes take her into the shower, but the shower is quite small and, whilst we have a "showerhead on a hose thingy", it is a tight fit for her and she has to bend in the middle a bit to fit in. Also kills my back. I wouldn't put her in the bath b/c it is acrylic, and she'd scratch it with her nails. I suppose I could put an old towel on the base to stop that, also good for those dogs afraid of slipping. I've only used the hose in the garden on really hot days in summer to rinse off after a swim in the dam. If she can stand the freezing water in the dam, then the hose isn't going to worry her! It doesn't take much to wash a grey, and thankfully they don't have a lot of hair. Also doesn't have to be done often, but I'm going to have to take her soon b/c she has to be clean for the show promo. Reminder to myself to also wash her green collar (her GAP collar, which greys in Vic wear to signify they don't need to be muzzled).
Libertybrook
I do all mine in the boys bathroom, we dont have a bath in our ensuite, and I havent as yet bought a hydrobath, but its so cold here in Winter I wouldnt want to bath and blow dry them in the shed outside anyhow. I have one those attachments that has different settings on it, the dogs jump in and out themselves, all the walls are tiled so its easy to wipe down when they shake, I have a cushion on the edge of the bath , so when I kneel down I can lean over and it takes the weight off my back, so no back ache then its a mad dash down to the other end of the house into the spare room where I blow dry them, I have to make sure I have all the bedroom doors shut otherwise they would duck in the dry themselves on someones doona !!!! if I ever win lotto I want to build my own heated/airconditioned grooming room with all the trimmings including a TV and DVD player !!! oh I can dream cant I
:ange:
I take Ruby in the shower once a month (or once a fortnight depending on whatever she's rolled in..) She gets all sooky in the shower and tends to just stand there while I scrub her down. I just love how they get the zoomies after the shower - it's like SNAP! I'm happy now ma, I'm freeeeee! We've got a big shower which makes it easier.. we're moving in another couple of months so I must keep showering her in mind!!!!
colliehound
Hi Ridgeback Luver PM me with details of which side of town you are on. If our teams get along at the next walk, we might be able to wash them down here for you for a reasonable price. I have h/bath, dryer etc etc Colliehound
ILuvAmstaffs
My BIL used to take his Doberman into the shower with him. Easy. Thats what I do. I wash Diesel then let him out so OH can dry him while I then have a shower myself. Easy! And though he hated it to start with, lots of treats later he now walks staright into the shower when I call him.
Bellaboo
Hi there, I have boxers and I do both of mine in the shower with me. I used to do them in the bath tub, but the shower is far less messy and keeps them contained. Bella was a bit hesitant to start with, but some treats fixed that. My puppy Lewis loves it tho ... . He tries to hop in even when its not time for a shower. I used to have a malamute but with her I always took her to the groomers. It was impossible to dry her without the proper driers and if she didnt get dried completely, she would get itchy. (She had very sensitive skin). Give the shower a go with you in there ... is super easy !!! Edited September 28, 2008 by Bellaboo
