morgan Posted September 1, 2008 Share Posted September 1, 2008 (edited) Was checking the Low Dose Naltrexone Forum for a relative with Crohn's, and came across this entry It has now been a month since I started giving my dog LDN for Inflammatory Bowel Disease which the vet told me was an autoimmune disease. Since my vet was not familiar with LDN nor willing to give me a script for it, I got the 50 mg tablets from India without a script and have been giving him 2 mg each night. His chronic diarrhea is gone, he has put on weight, his appetite is fantastic for the first time in 1 1/2 years, he is playfull and in great health. LDN has done what my vet was not able to do in the last 18 months. Not to mention that he was on 4 different medications as well as chinese herbs. I just wanted to pass this info on to anyone that may be having trouble with their pets to consider LDN - for anything considered autoimmune . InspectorRex Posted September 1, 2008 Share Posted September 1, 2008 Irritable Bowel Syndrome and Inflammatory Bowel Disease are two TOTALLY different conditions so be aware of that. I lost my Champion bitch to severe Inflammatory Bowel Disease and I now have the condition myself. IBD is usually brought on by a bacterial infection in the bowel( well is was in my case) I would suggest you PM Charles Kuntz and he could help explain the difference Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
morgan Posted September 1, 2008 Author Share Posted September 1, 2008 Thanks for that - I don't know how I slipped and put IBS :D The cause of IBD is not known, but these diseases are thought to be due to an autoimmune process that has been triggered by a genetic predisposition, a viral illness, and/or an environmental factor. http://www.labtestsonline.org/understandin...tory_bowel.html A relative was diagnosed with Crohn's disease, which is a type of IBD - she has recently started on LDN treatment and has responded very well so far - as she is only 25 she is extremely grateful for the relief she is getting from her embarrassing and uncomfortable symptoms - these were not conducive to her lovelife apart from the pain and discomfort Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
