~Midniara~
When I went into my vet to have my pups 6 weeks vaccination, I asked how much it would cost to have my adult dogs Titre tested. My vet said that they've never been asked this and so do not provide it but she'd look into it for me. They called me yesterday and said it would cost $200 per dog! There goes that idea! What do others vets charge for this? Cheerio Maria ETA Not interested in effectiveness of or advice on vaccination, just how much you pay for Titre testing so I can go back to my vet with prices. ~Midniara~
I've just asked for this to be moved to the Health Forum. I'd completely forgotten about posting in there. Thanks for the PM Clyde.
LoremIpsum
May I ask what titre testing is? I did look it up, but could only find definitions that classified it as a method of testing, rather than work out what you are testing for.
Bonnie N Her Aussie
"Titre testing is a method of assessing whether or not a dog has immunity to certain diseases by measuring the antibodies in the blood by means of a blood test. Then owners can decide whether or not to vaccinate depending on degree of existing immunity without the risk of over-vaccination. " - http://www.dogtalk.co.uk/vaccination.php This is also a good read http://www.canine-epilepsy-guardian-angels.../titer_test.htm
~Anne~
Titre testing is used to determine a dog's immunity levels to the common diseases that they are traditionally vaccinated for, such as parvo, hep and dist. *oops, posted at the same time as Bonnie. You get the picture now I guess... Edited August 27, 2008 by PugRescueSydney
Guest Tess32
How many diseases are you testing for? The more you test for....the more it costs.
~Midniara~
How many diseases are you testing for? The more you test for....the more it costs. From memory it was three tests: Parvo, distemper and Bordatella. Edited to add the third test. Edited August 27, 2008 by ~Midniara~
Guest Tess32
Then it's not a totally outrageous amount. I was quoted same amount for JUST Parvo once. It wouldn't be Bordatella...I don't think you can test for it, it would be hepatitis. It's a one off cost really, unless you need the certificate for obedience and so on. CavsRcute
I just paid $112.00 for parvo and distemper, and a quick general check up ETA Oops... Can't remember whether it was hepatitis or distemper but it was 2 diseases and definitely parvo Edited August 27, 2008 by CavsRcute
stormie
If our clinic opened an account with VetPath, it would probably only cost about $60-$80 or so for parvo and distemper titres (not including transport). But if we sent the blood through our regular sydney lab, their price is something like $150 - 200. Our sydney lab still sends the blood off to VetPath, but they add on their own handling/transport fee which really bumps the price up.
DeltaCharlie
Getting mine done this week, $70 per dog + consultation fee. That's for parvo and distemper, if I want hep (I dont) then it is $120 per dog coz they have to send it overseas.
White_Shadow
So getting them vaccinated every few year would be much cheaper...
DeltaCharlie
No because once they have immunity they have it for life. They only need to be tested once.

puggy_puggy
They called me yesterday and said it would cost $200 per dog! There goes that idea! :D $200 sounds about right. My vet enquired and quoted me approx $230 for Parvo, Distemper & Hep. The tests are through Gribbles.
becks
my vet charges the same price as the cost of the vaccination.

I would do at one year old, but you would be able to tell 14 days after the last puppy shot if the dog's mounted a normal immune response.. Vaccinations are cheaper, but not better, for the dogs. puggy_puggy
my vet charges the same price as the cost of the vaccination. Yes but you are in the UK. How much do vaccinations cost there?

puggy_puggy
$80 here. Is that for all three tests or just two?
