Just Midol
Where do we all get out Kangaroo? Happy to drive to Brisbane to get it, but the price has to be better than what I can get here I can get it for $4.70/kg but will only feed it on a regular basis if I can get it cheaper than that. I want to feed Roo twice a week. ETA: The roo I can get is "Aussie Pet Foods" brand but I cant find a website for them. westiemum
Hi Midol, I used to buy pet grade roo too - until I found out it has an additive in it to keep it smelling OK when its really off that is apparently carcinogenic, and it had a really horrible greeny blue dye through it. So I suppose I'm saying just be careful about what's in it. I have small dogs so I buy human grade roo for them once a week or once a fortnight - but that might not be economical if you have big dogs. Hope that helps. Cheers, Westiemum
Bonnie N Her Aussie
My neighbor shoots em, skins em, bags em and delivers within about 3 hours of killing them. That's fresh! Kangaroos are a pest here, and he has all the legal permits etc needed to do it. instead of diposing of an entire kangaroo - I get the tails and legs for Millie. MolassesLass
I get all our dog meat from Canine Country, I can see roo chunks for $4.30kg in 1kg lots or $4.10kg in 5kg lots. I feed the composite (BARF) mixes and various bones to my lot. They have a store on the north side at Burpengary but would probably deliver to you for a big enough order. Thanks, they have quite a few different types of mince/meat/chunks I'd be interested in trying. I just want to give the dogs a variety. Ever tried Camel? If they don't want to deliver I can pick it up anyway. Westiemum, I used to get mince with that green preservative but now I won't feed it if I spot it (or if they tell me it has it.) Problem is I can't find human grade roo mince either except at woolworths and I don't like woolworths. MolassesLass
Nup haven't tried camel. Duke is on the Duck mix, it keeps him looking really solid. The BCs are on the Aussie mix which is roo and emu.

I think another post by you Molasseslass put me onto Canine Country, and for that I want to say thank you! The $1.50 chicken frames = three meals! It's made our transition to BARF a little easier. Now we just need a bigger freezer!
peigirl
Midol, my boy gets feed exclusively on the Macro Meats roo mince from SA. Costs me a damn fortune but its the only meat/brand of roo meat he can stomach, literally as he as ibd and food intolerances. It's around $7/kg here but really good quality. Buy it from Coles if it makes you feel better lol.
MolassesLass
No probs Jey, I like to spruik any business I find worth it. We have a nice big deep freezer just for dog stuff so we can get the cheap bulk deals.

I'm really not sure, Our neighbor just knocked on my door and asked me if i wanted some each week or whatever. I love it.
Alison
I wouldn't feed pet grade roo, sorry. The place i called up to enquire about it, they said that when the roos are shot they are inspected and if the roo are not up to being cut up for human quality then they are left for pet meat. I can only imagine how long they would leave them sitting in the heat for before they get them back to the factory, or why they weren't fit for human consumption in the first place. I only feed human grade meat to my dogs.
Just Midol
Alison, I think that all depends on the supplier. I know pet mince at my butcher is just mince that they haven't managed to sell. It's too old to sell but still fine to eat (butcher says he eats it.) They've always thrived on it. Bonnie, when we see a Kangaroo we all run and watch it We don't get many kangaroos here. I'll ring the council. --- I might get a few of those composite things as well to see how the dogs like them.
