Bailey9
I am considering getting an Olympus e520 with either one of the twin lens kits. I have had a look around on the net, but have noticed some do not offer an international warranty, which I want. Does anyone have any recommendations of great places to buy a camera from? I live in rural SA, so even if buying from a 'real shop' I would be needing postal delivery. I am new to the world of SLRs. Can someone explain to me in simple terms what type of photos each of the kit lenses would be used for and which twin kit would be best for versatility - 14-42mm & 40-150mm or the more expensive 14-42mm & 70-300mm. 14-42mm F3.5-5.6 Standard Wide Zoom Lens 40-150mm F3.5-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lens 70-300mm F4-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lens Also any recommendations for a beginners guide to DSLRs & photography? Gayle.
Most cameras are warrantied only in the country of purchase. Lenses usually carry an international warranty though. I buy my DSLR's from Teds, I have always found them to be excellent to deal with. Lenses however, come from B&H in New York.
Gayle.
14-42mm F3.5-5.6 Standard Wide Zoom Lens Landscapes, buildings, group shots. Anything where you want to get a lot in the frame. 40-150mm F3.5-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lens Portraits, pets, flowers, general outdoor stuff. 70-300mm F4-5.6 Telephoto Zoom Lens This is your long distance zoom, so this is the one you'd take to the zoo. Also good for portraits up to about 150mm. This one would not be any use indoors. My personal choice would be the first two, then save some money for a tele zoom. Aubrey
I got mine from http://d-d-photographics.com and from http://www.einfotech.com.au I went for the Nikon D80 with a 15-70 VR and 70-200 VR lens... fantastic value and saved me 000's compared to high street shops for the same model / kits. Warranty wise, if there is a problem, it still goes to Nikon in Sydney, the same as if you purchased it in a high street, so didn't both me! Ripley
I buy everything from B&H New York now. Although now the AUD has fallen to under 88 cents, I won't be buying anything for some time! I bought my 30D there and Canon 70-200 and have bought accessories there too. Fantastic service. I got a 3 year int'l warranty on my 70-200 lens.
