Erny
I can't believe you haven't named him yet... Yeah well .... seeing as I'm also thinking along the lines of musical bands, Elvis' song "Devil in Disguise" springs to mind  He's doing well though. Slept 7 hours straight through last night. Is going to the toilet on command (and sometimes not on command ). In fact, I'm noting that he sometimes goes twice in the one sitting (so to speak) - I think that's so he can get an extra food treat!!! Mr R & NR
Erny, I really like Bomani (Bo for short which meant strong soldier/Warrior), sorry forgot who wrote that one. I think that would suit him. Sticking my oar in but you do need some help on this I think. And you have the Man, little man in there too. Nearly a week since you got him, how has life changed?!!!! Not much, Erny takes it in her stride. "who is in charge here" I ask

Not much, Erny takes it in her stride. "who is in charge here" I ask Thank you ... "Bomani" is nice and will be included in the short list. I think "Mandela" is growing on me though. I just asked 'little man' to bark twice if he liked the name "Mandela". And he did!!! (Actually, he barked another half dozen times after that, but , so he can't count yet . He's only a baby after all. ) I don't know why I'm not fretting about a name. I think it will just come to me. I'm meeting up with my sister for dinner and drinks (to wet puppy's head - metaphorically speaking of course) on Thursday night. I think a few drinks under my belt will see me naming him that night . ETA: In typical RR style, he has found the ducted heating vents. They are now his favourite places for sitting and laying on. Edited August 12, 2008 by Erny

Tony Thank you, Tony. "Little Man" certainly has the 'determination' part down pat. ETA: I love the words you used to describe Mr. Mandela (the person). They collectively sum him up very well and yes, the name does give a ring of 'integrity'. Edited August 12, 2008 by Erny

Kelpie-i
Erny, for training purposes, espcially for ease of recall, I recommend a name with one syllable, that way you are not cutting the name short as we all tend to do and it flows off the tongue easier. Just my 20c worth. Hope you name the poor bugger soon....well at least before his first birthday
Miss Monster
Yeah other people like my name lol Bakari very rarely gets called by his name - he actually answers to Monster better than Bakari
Erny
Some pictures from a couple of days ago (or was it only yesterday? ;)) ..... "My Little Man" NOT getting his own way. I know KI ..... and it's something I even tell others. But this stuffs me right up because NONE of the names I've thought of for him are of one syllable. Except for yesterday, when "s#@t" formed a good part of his name (after copping a razor sharp puppy tooth to the back of my knee ;) ). I do notice he has a tendancy to turn particularly feral directly before a poo and a sleep. ..... I'm onto him!!!!
Seita
Congrats on the new baby erny!!! I'm sure you'll have a ball with him! ;) As far as names, all of my dogs have had 2 sylables in their names and I've never had an issue with training - Ella is a top scoring obedience dog and I don't think it would matter if I called her ella or something with 10 sylables - she'd probably still do the work!! Lab_Rat
Erny.....So glad to hear the little darling is going so well, and is feeling very at home in his new address!! Hows the back of your knee?? Not too much damage I hope. The photos are beautiful - such expression..... About the name - kelpieI - I dont think ridgys really care how many syllables are in their names - they can ignore one just as easily as two, or three :p , in fact mine is quite proficient at ignoring everything that comes out of my mouth - anything from Goose, to Zola and all the other names in between . Although she does seem to like the words Mouse, Poo?, Dinner and anything said to the kelpie in a cutesy, high pitched voice!!! RG
Kelpie-i
Ridgy Girl, I was referring more so for the ease of the handler, not necessarily whether the dog responded or not to single syllable names. Sorry if this confused you. C'mon Erny.....we need a name by Sunday (I know you work better with deadlines) Is he doing zoomies yet??
Kelpie-i
Hey Erny I have a few suggestions for names (not sure if you're sticking to a certain theme or something): Cruz (I really like this name) Kane Erny (LOL!) Kyle .......................................by Sunday!!!!

CONGATULATIONS Erny. When is coming out herding? I don't know about the one syllable thing my dogs recall fine with 2 syllable names like "dickhead" "F#$$ing P$#&k" and not to forget "A**%hole" Cheers, Dave. Erny
Hahahaha to HG and KI. HG ..... I am very honoured that news of my puppy has brought you out of the woodwork and into this thread . News today is that I have settled on a name for my little man and yes, I'm going with : MANDELA  "Del" for short (or as his recall .... whatever). We had a big night last night, meeting Monty the Bearded Collie (who was a grumpy bum and wasn't up to 'kids' ..... preferred to treat Mandela as though he simply wasn't there, but he did get better as the night progressed) and Nooshka the Keeshond (who was nice and neutral). Mandela coped with everything in confident style. Loved the cuddles he got from my sister and flat mate and had tonnes of photo's taken by flat mate with new whizzbang camera. He fell asleep exhausted on one of the 'big dog' beds (which made him look so tiny), slept all the way home in the car and then again right throughout the night until 10 am this morning!!! Man of my own heart . Today we might go visit Robbo's Pet Barn so he can meet more people and so I can fit him for some PJ's, as typically RR, he feels the cold a lot. HG ..... Actually, I think it would be fun to bring him up for a bit of socialisation with your sheepies . I think herding is out of the question though ..... He'll probably climb up and snuggle into their woolly coats for the warmth. But I take it I have an invitation for when the time is right????? Even if it's just to say 'hello' and meet everyone?? ETA : Wish to thank everyone for their name suggestions; good wishes; and compliments Edited August 15, 2008 by Erny

Zombie Bait
Congrats Erny on finally picking a name! Mandela is an awesome name. Our RR girl is Honeycreek Lady Cosworth, call name Sierra after the cars Sierra Cosworth. The breeder asked us what we had in mind and as we are Ford obsessed it was either that or Falcon!! I must admit I do miss the squishy face photos, but at 6 months Sierra has almost grown out of her wrinkles. They do hate the cold dont they! Sierra wont sleep unless she is firmly wrapped in her blanky, she gets quite vocal if she isnt!! Good luck with everything training wise.....RR's are terrors!!
