Erny
Hi I need the name/s of Vets/Holistic Vets who know of and understand the work of Dr. Jean Dodds when it comes to hypothyroidism blood test results (ie bloods already done and analysed by her). Can anyone help? Melbourne/South Melbourne area would be the best, if possible. But if further afield, still interested.
poodlefan
Can't help for Melbourne. In Sydney, Dr Barbara Fougere here would be a good bet. You can always email questions to Dr Dodds - she seems very happy to receive emails from people. Edited August 5, 2008 by poodlefan
Erny
Thanks Poodlefan. I am already in communication with Dr. Jean Dodds. The issue is with a Vet here who (for want of better words) refutes the analysis arising out of the blood tests and recommended medication for it. Need a Vet who understands. ShesaLikeableBiBear
This is not really of any relevance to Dr Dodd's findings but may be of some help with the vet who is refuting an analysis. Panda was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 24 Jun. T4 levels should be between 19-45 and his were 5. He is on thyroxine and had a check up after a month. His T4's are now 30 and he is a different dog altogether. Apart from the T4 levels other indications were his coat has gone dull and skin a brownish colour, (he is a bi black sheltie), he was very lethargic and his exercise tolerance was very low. It was initally thought he had a heart problem, he saw a cardiologist who recommended the thyroid tests.
TangerineDream
Try Boronia Vet Clinic http://www.boroniavet.com.au/ and ask to see Keith...he helped me with a dog with hypothryoidism years ago - was absolutely fabulous, did a huge amount of research and didn't stop till he had throughly researched her and her history...and got it all spot on. Erny
Thanks guys ..... although this is not about the levels that would show up under the usual T4 and TSH tests that Australia conducts out here. This is about the full blood panel of tests for which we don't have the laboratory facilities. Tests have been done and results found. But a Vet doesn't agree. But TD ..... I'll contact your Vet and discuss it with him - see what he's familiar with :p. Thanks. But I really need someone who is familiar with Dr. Dodd's testing regime and analysis. harper
Hi Erny. I have sent you a PM. Edited August 5, 2008 by penski
Erny
Thanks Penski. As per my PM back to you, I've placed a couple of telephone calls. Also placed one the other day to a Vet I have used for my own purposes (this instance is not about a dog of my own) and he rang back today. The enquiries/investigation that I am doing is still a 'work in progress', but I am hopeful that out of the Vets who do respond, we will be able to get somewhere and come to a conclusion. Sorry to be a bit allusive in regards to detail, but it relates to a client and I need to regard "client confidentiality" for professional reasons. Appreciate the responses given . Cheers! And yes ..... I understand it too. ETA : I think I have been able to source a Vet within 'do-able' distance to my client and who will present with an open and knowledgeable mind as far as the matter relates to thyroid and behaviour and thyroid meds . Thanks Penski. And thanks to others who responded here. Edited August 9, 2008 by Erny

We sent the bloods overseas for analysis. Mmoo .... thanks for the name. Have you any idea how to contact this person? Even remotely where she is located? Please PM me with the details if you do . Erny
We sent the bloods overseas for analysis who sent the blood? was it your vet or the lab and what cost is involved? The Vet out here drew the bloods. The client sent the bloods by Fed-Ex overseas. Blood analysis was about $90(US) (I say this as an approximate, without looking them back up). Then there would have been the Fed-Ex costs as well as the local Vet fees for drawing the bloods. Blood results were known in approximately 1 week after having sent them off.
