Ringworm

Hi all

I have recently moved to Victoria and live on a Thoroughbred Stud. The young stock on the farm have been working through a ring worm infection over the last few weeks.

My dog Bronson has a wound on his head. Originally I thought he had somehow walked into a burning stick as when it first turned up we had lit a huge bonfire and he walks around with his head in the clouds the majority of the time  (it seriously wouldn't surprise me tbh).

But it has taken longer to heal than I expected and is looking like it might be ringworm. Does anyone know whether dogs are able to get infected from horses? Is it the same worm? Bron doesn't really go near the horses, but I am sure he would have been in contact with things that have been in contact with them.

Thanks in advance.

Alyssa

Hi Alyssa, ringworm can by cause by numerous fungi (its not actually a worm). Some can be spread from and between horses and dogs. Because its a fungi, it will produce spores which can be spread fairly easily.

Soooo, chances are you doggie has ringworm!
